Heat regs TOO important?

Post by jmikkone »

As I've learned the inner mechanics of this game, I've learned to understand the importance of a good heat regulator. But isn't heat a bit TOO restricting factor in almost any design? If you've managed to avoid using energy weapons when doing a design, simply adding one or two medium/large lasers will both make you considerably more dangerous and also make your heat go through the roof.

Especially with all the possible sources of heat (moving, forest fires, NMs, shields etc) even the best of the heatregs will soon shudder under the load. A natural question to ask is, can you expect to survive with anything less but the best heat reg you can possibly cram into, even if it means sacrificing a bit in electronics and/or armor? In hell, most propably not, but how about in Iceland?

The reason I'm asking this is because I've lost quite a few duels mainly because of a sub-standard heat reg.. A bit too many, if you ask me.

About half the standard VB designs have underclassed heat regs IMO. So what do you do? Refit them. Or just build a complete database of homemades.

That's because all the "classic" (read obsolete) designs by VB were made before a lot of changes occur. Notice also that alot of the "classic" designs have too-small engines. The Marksman is a good example, it can't fire it's GCs while moving (not even to walk) and if it's engine is damaged even lightly all it's electronics go off.
I see your lips moving, but all I hear is: Blah Blah Blah, I'm a friggin moron.

I just did an interesting note.. Heat Reg 9 just barely covers the heating ratio of 2 Pulse Lasers on Classic if you just stand still. Sheesh.. That means, basically, that you could build a nightmare Assault titan with nothing but 2 Pulse Lasers as armament and LOTS of nice stuff to go with it.

The new database addresses this and most older database titans are being rebuilt.
