Getting the rust out

Post by jureidinim »

I made a post in the Tech support on making a new campaign - yes completely wrong place.. I was responding to one thing and got carried away.. [:D]

tm.asp?m=1957599

(look for the wall of text.. heh heh)

I had asked in that post what level campaign players would like to see - so far Larkin has said 4 - 5.

So - I have started one - getting my story together and all. However:
a) What exactly would level 4 be? Veteran? Regular? (bear with me - it's been awhile)
b) I do not currently have a Veteran squad (or whatever level 4 equates to). To help me get to testing a bit faster, does anyone have such a squad they could email me the squad file? I need to test my missions and I would prefer a normal squad as they can level up (I can create a high level squad using the special squads feature but those won't level up). This would be faster than me trying to level up a new squad (i'm not that great a player so the chances of having to retry many times are high).
c) At that level, how many titans/jocks do most players have? What's the mix like (Recon/Light/Medium/etc)?
My previous campaigns were balanced around an average squad of four - would this still be true for a level 4-5 squad?

Hope to make this one interesting [8D]

Level 4 is regular. I'd say a squad of 4 is reasonable with average titan weight 100t.

Thanks for the squad.

Another rusty question:

On the editor for FIELD events, I set up a CALL TITAN event (trigger hex marked and "called" titan marked). Questions:
1) Does the called Titan have to be set up as mandatory?
2) I see a field called ARRIVAL TIME. I don't recall seeing this before. Is this the time after the event is triggered that the CALL will take place (Titan enters the field)?

Oh lord, it's been years !

1) I think so.
2) Yes. Titan will arrive at time of trigger + arrival time + 1 second.

Had to say - thanks Larkin for finishing the work on the BEFORE/AFTER times for events and Titans appearing. It really keeps scenarios surprising even for the designer [:D]

Now if we only had random start points... hmmm..

Anyways - story for my new campaign is coming on well enough that i can start designing my missions around it - finished testing the first one and it seems ok. Looking forward to doing some more on the weekend.

Personally, I would prefer campaigns/missions in which the enemy has a total Titan weight and Jock rank that is a certain percentage of the player's Squad. That way, players will have the same level of difficulty when playing the campaign/mission, no matter how developed their Squad is. This would allow players who have well-developed Squads (that they want to continue using and can't bear to part with) to enjoy the campaign and/or mission the way that it was intended by the campaign/mission creator.
But I do concede jureidinim's point that missions designed for low to mid-level Squads are more exciting because the battles are quicker and more intense and less of a slugfest (or war of attrition).
jureidinim, you should just create the campaign exactly the way that you want to, because most of the fun in creating campaigns/missions is having complete artistic freedom and letting your imagination run wild. And try to watch those spelling mistakes in the briefings. I'm not singling you out, jureidinim - typo's in the mission briefing seem to be a trend for missions created for this game.

@gazra - Just run your campaign/mission by Thorgrim and believe me, all typo's/errors will be revealed.. heh heh.. joking Thorgrim - you can put down the Plasma gun.. [:D]  - I may be asking for your eagle eye again to proof my campaign when done.

Ok.. I'm stumped (or just tired). Someone remind me how to properly use the CALL TITAN event. Isn't it:
a) Put titan on map (not mandatory/mandatory - i tried both)
b) create CALL TITAN field event and mark the hex that titan is in

Effect *should* be:
The titan is not "visible" or "active" on map until the field event is triggered.

Am I missing something?? Am I way off?? Am I that rusty??? This doesn't seem to be working when i use it. The titans I want to CALL are appearing at the start of the mission (no event triggered yet).

Think i'll go to bed now - did two more missions for the campaign - but the CALL TITAN is messing me up on the third one- and I just found a possible problem with mission #2 objectives.  Need rest... [;)]

Any help appreciated.

I think you have to set unit arrival > 0, set it to a big number and let it be triggered by the hex event.

Thought i would let everyone know - the campaign is still in the works. The branching idea is a lot of work.. lol..
Tested a few maps, others done but not tested, and i have 3 1/2 maps to go (to create).

Trying to make an interesting story to go with it (i'm sure there will be holes in the story, but maybe i can keep them small.. heh heh)
