Hard Corps - Rookie AAR

21st Battle:

The Hard Corps start this mission slightly spread our on the eastern edge of the map with no enemies in sight. Kali jumps up to see what she can spot. There's mountian ridges to the Northeast, South, and West surrounding a large open area in the middle with a pair of small lakes in the center. The area actually looks like an ancient impact crater with the surrounding hills defining the rim and the small lakes being the center of the impact sight. (It actually looks better from the air, the screenie isn't as clear as it has some darkened out areas) There's a river network cutting across the map from the mid-western edge to the mid-southern edge, running just outside of the crater's edge. Kali stops noticing the geology of the area when she spots an unknown medium approaching the river from the far Southwest. In the open plains near the lakes there are two seperated lone clumps of heavy foliage, Kali desides to use the northern patch of cover, while Rocky and Blade will use the southern patch. Kali successsfully lands, she's getting better at that. Rocky tops a small hill on the way to his chossen spot and spots a unknown light just to the north of the medium that Kali spotted.

Both of the enemy titans jump across the river as the Hard Corps arrive in thier defensive locations. The enemy is now in scanner range and are identified as a Phobos and a Shredder. The Phobos jumps several hexes across the river and starts heading toward Kali's northmost position, but once it starts approaching, it turns toward Rocky and Blade. The Shredder also jumps for muliple hexes, moving behind the crater rim to the south of the Hard Corp only to reappear on the crater's southern rim four hexes away from Rocky and Kali. So far the Hard Corps only been scanning and taking a few pot shots at the incoming enemy titans, but now it's time to concentrate fire on the Shredder as the Phobos dodges it's way across the open ground of the crater floor.




Rocky manages to trip the Shredder with a PL blast as eveyone lays into it. It manages to stand, but it's taking heavy fire, Rocky trips it agian and the resulting fall takes off it's left leg. The squad desides to take a few more potshots at the downed Shredder hoping it will eject and not annoy the squad with stray shots as the Phobos closes. Blade takes out the LoT, not what he'd prefer, but the Shredder hasn't fired since falling and the squad decides they'll finish it off later since the Phobos is now only three hexes away from Rocky and Blade. The Phobos takes heavy fire and at one hex range Rocky trips it with his PLs. The Phobos makes it to it's feet and promptly ejects. The squad breaths a sigh of relief and turn thier attention back to the Shredder, but before they can even get a lock on it, it's jock ejects. An easy VICTORY.

The squad manages to salvage the Phobos, but choose to take the money instead. Not much xp at all, but it was a very easy fight. and the $186,838 made it worth while. Even better, as the repair cost for the whole squad came to a grand total of $787 for a new paint job on Rocky's Sparrowhawk. Rocky claims the Shredder did get in one hit on his titan, but the rest of the squad thinks he just wanted a new paint job.[:D]

Overall, By far the easiest battle the squad's had. Great position and a couple of lucky hits resulting in trips. Just my luck that when I do write one up it's not much excitement, but that don't bother the Hard Corps' jocks all that much[:D]

22nd Battle:

Opponents: Shredder, Tantrum, Club, Dagger

The Piper demanded his pay...Kali, dead, engine explosion. A few more seconds to finish the eject was all she needed, but the Tantrum got very lucky with concentrated damage to the CT of Kali's Thor. [:(]

Cover and good firing positions were sparse and the Hard Corps was 'forced' to keep the squad together. Kali's explosion heavily damaged the rest of the team (as well as the enemy). As the smoke was clearing, both squads had second thoughts, and enough was enough. The battle was a DRAW.

This was a huge disaster for the Hard Corp with reprucussions that will extend well past the next 10 battles even if everything goes well. The squad has no suitable leader, but Rocky will fill the position in name only as Blade does the same with the position on squad Manager. Morale and Leadership are so low, recruiting new jocks is out of the question... A team of two.... There will be negitive Bravery modifiers in the near future, until the squad can come to grips with the situation.

Roy Batty (Blade) mumbled somethng about "I've seen attack-ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion." Rocky takes this as a sign that Blade is dedicating himself to lead the squad from the ashes. At least he hopes that was what was happening... Rocky refuses to lead despite his offical title and the fact he's the only surviving original member of the Hard Corps. None-the-less the squad presses forward into a future that can only be brighter then the recent past. May Kali R.I.P

VICTORY! Squad passes the $2m milepost and Blade offically takes over as the Hard Corps Leader.

VICTORY! but almost as importantly Blade gets his Leadership up high enough to start recuiting new jocks! He immediately recuits Brook Tse (AKA. Bookie) a female replicant I to take over the squad's finacial matters. Rocky was overheard complaning "I'm totally surrounded by 'skin-jobs'! Blade wants to be the leader, fine! He can lead us into the next salvo of a neutron blaster!"

Bookie is specialized in CC and takes charge of the squad's Axeman. This also drops the Hard Corp's rank back to Green.. whew! Meet Bookie:

27th Battle:

Opponents: Wolfpack, Whip, Poltergeist

I was going to do a full write up on this battle but it turned into a fairly easy VICTORY with Rocky once agian proving he's worth his high salary with the Sparrowhawk. Bookie does well for her 1st time out, but Rocky gets all the glory with a kill by removing the Poltergeist's head. The Hard Corps salvages the Whip, but they really wanted the Poltergeist.

28th Battle:

Opponents: Exhuminator, Packhunter, Poltergeist

Another fairly easy VICTORY. But this time the squad manages to salvage the Poltergeist! Rocky gets promoted to Regular and Blade gets promoted to Novice. Nice Battle!

The Hard Corps sells off a Dragonfly and an Exhuminator and recuits a new rookie to piliot the Poltergeist. Karen Bullock, a female replicant I with the callsign Bullet will join the squad in the next battle. After repairing the Poltergeist and selling off the Dragonfly and Exhuminator, the squad still lost money, it's getting close to time to look into Rocky's and Blade's salaries.

29th Battle: (AKA: Revenge of the Recons)

Leader: Blade in an Enigma
Manager: Bookie in an Axeman
Mechanic: Rocky in a Sparrowhawk
Squadmate: Bullet in a Poltergeist

Terrain: Terran

Opponents: Mercury, Dart, Wraithchild, Tripwire, Banzai, Pike

The terrain was scattered hills with lots of heavy cover, making LOS relitively short. It made for a very intense battle with Bullet getting damaged early on and falling in a burning heavy forest, thanks to the Mercury. With her heat critical and not being able to move without shutting down and with the recons closing and firing at her, Bullet was forced to eject before her titan shutdown. No luck, she was killed in the ejection. We hardly knew her[:(]

The rest of the squad is now in a pitched battle, not only for thier lives, but to recover the downed Poltergeist. Rocky and Blade used intervening cover to effectively separate the incoming recons into 2 groups; they were able to deal with thier group, consisting of the Banzai, Tripwire, and Mercury. Bookie snuck the Axeman around the back of the other group and attacked them from behind, quickly taking down the Dart, then the Pike with a DfA that nearly removed it's head, following MG fire killed the jock inside the cockpit, giving Bookie a kill. The Wraithchild by this time was very close and had already hurt Bookie a couple of times with it's NB. At this point Rocky could be overheard over the comm "Skinjobs... what did I say about Skinjobs.. we're going to have to recuit 2 new jock now." Bookie gets rather upset by the comments. She uses the Axeman's good life support and shield system to excellent effect; gaining back some of her health and letting the shields (luckily) absorb a couple more NB shots. Then charges headlong into the Wraitchild with a DfA followed by a flurry of PX swings and MG fire. She quickly takes out the CT on the Wraithchild sending it up in a huge explosion. After the smoke clears she calmly remarks to Rocky "Stupid toaster halfbreed, bite me".

After the VICTORY, Bookie get a well deserved promption to Green after (almost) single-handedly taking out 3 Green pilioted recons, 2 by KIA. The Squad salvages the Dart.

Blade swaps his Enigma for the Dart and then recuits a new piliot for the Poltergeist, another female replicant I, Marilyn Fink, AKA. Bloody Mary. Rocky is livid.

30th Battle:

The Hard Corps starts this battle in the SW corner of the map. The map is bisected from the NW corner down to near the SE corner by a river. The Hard Corps' side of the river is fairly flat but with a good patch of heavy cover. The other side also has heavy cover and is more hilly. Bookie and Bloody Mary both jump up to get a good view of the battlefeild and spot a recon in the SE cornor of the map. Before landing they also spot 2 lights not far from the recon, but all the enemy titans are behind a large swath of quicksand and will have to take a long route to close for battle. The Hard Corps decide to spread out along the treeline facing the river and wait for the enemy to approach. While moving into position they briefly spot a third light a good distance away from the rest of the enemy, but still far away from the squad.

After waiting in cover for a while, it seems the enemy isn't too keen on making itself know, so Bloody mary leaves her cover to jumps up to see what going on, she spots the enemy hiding behind a hill near the middle of the map. On seeing Bloody Mary's Poltergeist they start heading in her direction; she lands and returns to cover. The Hard Corps waits some more, looks like the enemy turned back. Bloody Mary repeats her last manuver and hovers a little longer. This time they take the bait and keep moving forward. Bloody Mary return to poisiton and reports to the squad that they will be facing an Imp, Icelord, and a Badger. She didn't spot the 4th enemy titan.

It isn't long before the enemy appears on the far bank of the river and starts to cross. The Badger leads the way and the Hard Corps start trying to bring it down; however they miss a lot, the Badger is quick. The unknown 4th enemy titan appears slightly behind the rest of the enemies; it's a Thunderclap. The Badger closes, takes a few shots at Rocky, but it isn't long till Bloody Mary takes off it's left leg with a GME, Rocky follows suit and takes off it's RA, disabling it. The other enemy titans have taken this time to nearly complete their crossing of the river.



The Squad retargets to the Imp and goes to work. The Icelord is unleasing a fury of fire as it closes and Bookie decides to pull back deeper into the cover to break LOS and let the enemy pass only to reappear behind them at a later time. This was a mistake. The Thunderclap seeing Bookie turn the Axeman's back to it, opens up and puts a AC20 right in the CBT and drops her to the ground. It will now take Bookie too long to regain her feet and move through cover, she'll have to fight where she's at. Rocky takes off the Imps LL after it only had time to get off 2 missed Telsa bolt shots and quickly retargets to the Icelord which is starting to deal significant damage to Bloody Mary and Blade.

Bookie gains her feet and decides to take on the Thunderclap by herself. Seeing that the Thunderclap is running into her hex, she initiates a counter-charge. The Thunderclap opens up with it's FTs and while they miss they ignite Bookie's hex. The Thuderclap then fires an AC20 into Bookie's CT dropping her to the ground and moves into the burning hex, where it starts unloading fists and FTs. Bookie is taking a pounding and her CT is red with less then 20 internal armor left. Time to eject before she gets too hot. She manages to get the eject to work, but not too well, as it forcably ejects her straight into a burning tree, ending her life. (It seems I can only manage to roll 90+ on eject attemps... grrrr)

The Icelord moves into Blade's hex a few secound after Blade leaves and Rocky promptly sets the woods on fire (by accident) Blade gets a few lucky UGM into the Icelord's head and Rocky pops it twice with PLs. The jock uses descretion and ejects, but meets the same fate as Bookie did... good. Everyone retargets to the Thuderclap which is still in the burning hex where Bookie died. After a couple good rounds of fire, it's jock ejects and meets hot, flaming, ejection death like it's previous victim... good agian! A little mop up on the Imp and the squad achieves VICTORY! But agian at too high a cost, the Hard Corps need a new Manager.

The squad really wanted the Thunderclap as salvage, that was one mean titan! but no such luck, but they did come away with $148,558. Bloody Mary steps up and takes over the role as squad Manager, she sells off a Whip, pays for repairs on an Imp, and Blade hires another rookie jock to piliot it.

At this point Rocky has had it. There's been too many deaths in the Hard Corps lately and Rocky wants a jock with a little more staying power and someone that can stand up to a potential NB attack. After 'suggesting' to Blade that another Replicant would be a bad idea and a brief mention that "it's very rare, but sometimes a titan's engine can explode out-of-the-blue if the mechanic misses something" Blade decides to hire an android, a Md12 mkII.2C5.e that goes by the name Xenon, to pilot the Imp. Rocky appreciates the close range support. This also keeps the squad's average Rank at green.

The Hard Corps has finally recovered from the worst effects of losing thier old Leader and Manager, Kali, and are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel... they just hope it isn't the light from a Tesla bolt.[:D]

31st Battle:

Another battle against a wad of recons, but this time it was fought over a lake and not a river. Fairly easy VICTORY. The squad salvage the Wrathchild and plans to use it sometime int he near future.

32nd Batlle:

Opponents: Fireball, Gremlin, Phantasm, Jackal, Slugger

Well, at least this time there was a light in the mix. The Jackal and Gremlin go down early and the rest follow shortly, the Fireball showed up wondering where the lava was. Another fairly easy VICTORY. Bloody Mary gets promoted to Green.

33rd Battle:

Terrain: Biochem

Opponents: Spear, Raccoon, Mangler, Wolfpack

This one had me a little worried at the beginning I was stuck in a wide open plian with no cover what-so-ever. Luckily I made it to a lone patch of light cover about 8 hexes away from my starting location before the goon squad showed up. Easy VICTORY, except for the Racoon keep trying to knock down Bloody Mary. Salvage the Mangler.

34th Battle:

Terrain: Terran

Opponents: Death Grip, Fang, Rapier, Dagger, Mosquito, Dagger

Another mpb of recons, but this time they tried something different, an airdrop!, the 1st airdrop the Hard Corps has encountered. As the 1st 4 titans were drawing close the Mosquito and Dagger Airdropped in right behind the squad at a 2-hex range. The Hard Corps had holed up in a lone patch of heavy cover and had planned to try to thin the enemy's numbers as they approached. The airdrop changed that plan... sorta. Not much 'thinning of the numbers' instead it turns into a big dogpile in my hex; at one time there was 8(?) titans in my hex all pounding away at each other. The Hard Corps comes out VICTORIOUS and without too much major damage surprisingly. This situation is one to avoid! One blown engine and things whould have been nightmarish. Rocky got 2 kills and Xenon got one.. and almost an engine.. bad rookie. Squad salvages the Rapier then sells an Axeman, Enigma, and Ghost.

35th Battle:

Terrain: Savannah

Opponents: Deimos, Enigma, Wrathchild, Wolfpack, Porcipine, Pike

Recon madness! Things were looking good early, the squad had taken out the charging Wolfpack and as they were switching targets, Xenon opens up with a single TB onto an unscathed Enigma cleanly removing it's head. But then things turn scarey. The Deimos and Wrathchild team up thier NB fire and concentrate on Bloody Mary, who starts taking damage in 15-19 point lumps. She quickly packs up shop and bravely turns tail and runs as the rest of the squad pound away at the Deimos that just will not fall. Finally, Xenon uses a TB to remove the Deimos' engine as Bloody Mary majes it out of LOS of the Wrathchild. From here the squad mops up pretty quickly. At the end Blade give permission to Xenon to chase down the Pike that's been standing on a hill 7 hexes away and see if he can get a 3rd kill and a possible battlefield promotion. He knocks the Pike down to 5 internal APs in the CT, but the jock ejects before Xenon gets a chance for the kill. Still a nice VICTORY! The squad salvages another Wrathchild, Xenon gets promoted to Green, and the squad as a whole gets it's average rank raised to Novice.

Rocky and Blade have a pow-wow concerning the 2 Wrathchilds in storage and a mutual agreement is quickly reached to hire 2 new jocks to pilot them. Blade says "Six jocks on the payroll will be aweful expensive, especially if we have a bad battle or two." To which Rocky replies "If we have a bad battle or two, we will not have 6 jocks..."[:D]

Bloody Mary and Blade finds a human brother and sister team to pilot the two Wrathchilds. Alice and Lewis Freeman, AKA. White Rabbit and Mad Hatter. This drops the squads average rank back to Green.

36th Battle:

Everything started out ok, with the Hard Corps in a good defensive position scattered out along a heavy treeline, but then the enemy surprised the squad by sending a majority of it's forces in from an unexpected direction. This caused problems. The squad's left flank (Bloody Mary and Blade), which was only suppose to deliever support fire where now in line to be the squad's shocktroops. They start repositioning themselves, but take heavy damage. Then a missed laser shot sets the woods on fire just in time for the enemy titans to move into it, right next to Hard Corps. Things turn ugly quick and an enemy's engine explodes, setting all the surrounding woods on fire. It the fiasco that followed Bloody Mary shutsdown, her ammo explodes, and her engine follows shorty thereafter. This sets up another engine explosion from a downed enemy titan. All the titans on the battlefield except Rocky and the enemy jock pilioting the Mirage are either dead or heavily damaged, shutdown, and laying in a forest fire with heat in the 230-240C range. Rocky and the the Mirage's jock realize that there will be no victor in this fight and quickly call the battle a DRAW so they can start rescuing thier downed comrades.


White Rabbit took a tremedous blow to the cockpit during the explosions knocking her health down to 17hps and causing her to lose a point of Reaction. The Hard Corp is also without a Manager with the lose of Bloody Mary.[:(]

Blade convinces Rocky to temporarily take the position as squad manager until a replacement can be found. (Rocky needed to raise his bussiness skill anyway, his upkeep is starting to get out of hand). Blade also decides to let White Rabbit go, her injuries were quite substancial and a fresh rookie would perform much better. Mad Hatter reports that White Rabbit's injuries are more critical then the squad knew and that she's considering bionic replacements. Mad Hatter and Rocky convince Blade to have the squad pay for her conversion and to rehire her after the process is completed if that's what she wants. White Rabbit will return to the squad as a cyborg.

37th Battle:

Terrian: Polar
Opponents: Rapier, Frostbite, Deathgrip, Butcher, Wrathchild

Good battle. Rocky and Blade took cover. Xenon moved off to one side and waited for the enemy to get closer. Mad Hatter and White Rabbit just returning from her Cyborg conversion circled around the approaching enemy. Wasn't long before the enemy was encircle. The noose tightened as the Hard Corps picked off a couple enemies, then closed in and finished the enemy off. VICTORY.

White Rabbit got a kill with her NB and Mad Hatter got a kill by removing the head of an enemy titan with his PL. The squad salvaged the Deathgrip, but sold it instead.

38th Battle:

Terrain: Terran

Opponents: Will-o'-Wisp, Thorn, Guruni, Wasp, Pulsar (possible new name for the Sparrowhawk)

There was a big mountian range right down the middle of the map and apparently both sides made a mad dash to get to it. Both squads crested the ridge at about the same time; Opposing titans were in the same hex before either had time to get a weapon's lock! Pretty ugly, tooth and nail, kind of fight. Lots of running, either to get to or away for the enemy. Ended up with lots of damaged titans but it was a VICTORY!

Blade gets promoted to Regular! Salvaged the Pulsar! but lost alot of money after repairs even after selling off a Mangler. At best the squad's money situation is stagnant over the last few battles.

Some titan switching is called for: Xenon switches to the Pulsar and Roy becomes the jock of a Leopard.

Moved forword to engage the enemy and a good thing too as an Inferno and a Talon airdropped where I originally started. This effectively spread out the enemy and after some worry from the Infernos led to an easy VICTORY!

40th Battle:

Opponents: Lehr Magnus, Highlander, Incubus

The squad meets some heavier titans now that the opponents are up to Novice rank. With all the energy weapon on the Hard Corps, shields were a major annoyance but the squad had enough firepower to overload them fairly regularly. Biggest scare was the Incubus, which was airdroppped right in the middle of the Hard Corps but luckily it only managed to land 1 TB out of 4 shots (2 airdrops in a row!). VICTORY! Mad Hatter, who took the TB then ran away from the fight, got promoted to Green for not dieing[:D] Also made a nice sum of money on this battle.

Good fight, AI used smoke to cover it's approach until it was at a good range. The twin Sparrowhawks do a fine job. Victory! Blade got a kill as did White Rabbit with her NB. Salvaged the Purgatory, but sold it. Made good money and the Hard Corps bank account raises to over 3m!

Moved the squad out in a large semi-circle and the enemy approached spread out. Easy victory. Blade and White Rabbit both got kills. Salvaged the Phantom, but sold it for cash.

Pretty tough fight, used the 'hide in the cover' approach to ensure Victory.
Xenon got promoted to Novice. Salvaged the Penetrator. Xenon swaps titans to the Penetrator.

44th Battle

Opponents: Rapier, 2 x Deimos, Tempest, Guru, Poltergiest

Formed a defensive semi-circle and tried to kill the masses as they approahed. Unforunately they pushed through the middle of the line and recked havoc on Mad Hatter's Wraithchild, even after he was down and no threat they just kept pounding[:(] Mad Hatter was killed by a nearby engine explosion as the rest of the squad tried furiously to get the enemy off him. The Hard Corps won, but at too high a cost. white Rabbit is now an only child.

Salvaged a Deimos. Xenon and White Rabbit both got kills in revenge for Mad Hatter's death. With the lose of her brother White Rabbit gives up pilioting her Wrathchild and switchs to Xenon's old Sparrowhawk. The lose of Mad Hatter raises the squads average rank up to Regular.

Another Hoard! Some members of the squad is ready to move up to mediums now and they keep getting swarmed with recons. I need to fight mediums for a chance at salvage. Very tough fight, thought I'd lose this one, both the Penetrator and Leopard were heavily damaged early on, but the twin Sparrowhawks agian prove thier superior firepower! Snuck out a Victory... somehow! Porcupine and Pike were a nightmare as they supported the rest of thier little friends as they charge in.

White Rabbit got a kill and salvaged a Pest, but took the money instead. Lost over $150,000 on this fight after repairs.

Easy Victory. Really, really wanted to salvage the Crucible, but ammo explosions heavily damaged it and I ended up with the Berserker.

Not to tough a battle, but the squad took a lot of damage agian.

Salvaged the Terminator, My 1st medium. Rocky swaps rides to the Terminator and sends some of the over 1100 combat DPs he's saved up to become proficient in Cannons. Xenon moves back to a Sparrowhawk. A second non-energy weapon based titan will be nice to have, shields are going to be a little more common now as the squad moves up it wieght classes.

Not too tough a fight but the Mantis' AC20 had Rocky running for cover.

Blade gets a promotion to Vetran! and Rocky switches from the Terminator to the Mantis planning on tring out some Hand-to-hand with an AC20 as a back-up/ closing weapon.
