Attack factors for artillery?

Post by Vinnie O »

In spite of the fact that the towed guns were generally bigger than the main guns in tanks and in spite of the fact that field artillery was/is responsible for 65%-85% of all casualties, the guns get attack factors of only "1".

In the old manual the description of resolving combat in fact says that the engine simply counts the number of guns involved in a battle, apparently ignoring the nominal attack factor.

If I change the attack factors for field, AT and AA guns to more realistic numbers, will this have any effect?

I've tried creating new artillery pieces (e.g., a 15cm howitzer) using the extra slots amongst the tanks. This worked to some extent, but the game generally didn't treat these as artillery.

It would make more sense for there to be a 75mm class field gun, a 105/122mm class gun, and a 'heavy' gun (17cm, 21cm, Russian 203mm, etc.), but I'm not sure if the engine will support this.

It also doesn't seem reasonable that the tanks get great variety in their guns yet there is no difference between 37mm, 5cm, 75mm, and even 88mm towed AT guns.
