Missing Luftwaffe flak?

Post by Vinnie O »

The numerous German AA units in the game are actually just the Army (Heer) field AA battalions.

Each Fliegerkorps should get SEVERAL regiments of LW flak, and of course OKW, OKH, and Western Front should get oodles of LW flak for when the USAAF shows up.

Since the flak regiments need to be in a HQ unit, this kinda means that "Western Front" needs to start in the Ruhr, OKW in Berlin, and OKH in Hamburg, or something.

But I suppose it would all just get tranfered to the Panzerkorps by turn 3.

The special HQ's (Western Front, Italian Front) will not be allowed to move in future versions of WiR. Special rules allow air units there and OKW, OKH, to intercept USAF activity at greater ranges to reflect the reality of the historical situation, where these air groups are really spread throughout Germany for air defense. The game does not support the use of AA bns in the special HQs being specifically used for AA defense, so putting AA bns in the HQs won't do anything for you. They would be used by the routine which handles airfield attacks on HQs, but the USAF, of course, is not making airfield attacks.

You got it! Image This game is about the Eastern Front, so not surprisingly, the Axis player is going to use all available resources in his endevear to defeat the Soviets. The first thing I'm going to do when playing is to take as much as I can from the west for the fight in the east.

Part of my intent is to get the Western air forces, including the RAF, busy tying down JG 26 and JG 2 so that I can't just replace them with Hungarians flying biplanes.

Regardless of the West, however, each East Front Fliegerkorps gets SEVERAL regiments of LW flak to guard THEIR airfields so all of the Heer flak can go with the Panzerkorps. There should be a way to keep these LW guys from getting sucked into the front lines simply because things SEEM quiet. But I guess its all part of the "leader" problem.

I've got reasonable numbers for the Luftwaffe flak regiments SOMEPLACE. I'll simply add them to what is becoming a wall-to-wall replacement OrdBat for the 1941 Germans.

Oh, the Soviets have simply TONS of rear area flak. Moscow was defended by something like 1,000 AA guns of 76mm and larger in 1941. Leningrad had a similar PVO Flak Corps (or something), though a bit smaller.
