How about version 3.4?

Post by Morphy »

I don't think we can ever have version 4.0 but at least somebody from Matrix could polish 3.3 version.

What could be done?
1. More accurate map (a minor problem I guess).
2. If Sevastopol is hold then the entire Crimea should have some supply (like 5) - what is historically accurate - both Soviets and Germans defended the penisula after being cut off.
3. West Front and African HQ shouldn't shatter automatically regardless of German force there (there can be exception for Sud HQ as long as they fight in Africa due to weakness of German fleet).
4. First shatter of the African Front should happen in October '42 (battle of El-Alamein, where Rommel's units were decimated) unless Afrika Korps is strenghtened.
5. Both sides should be able to use captured tanks (especially Germans who used plenty of T-34)
6. Cities: Warsaw, Krakow and Lodz should have population 0 when they're occupied by Germans since Poles extremely rarely joined German forces. Actually there were strong partisan units fighting Germans!
7. A player should be able to change names of corpses/armies

What do you think?

You should have a look at the possum variant. It fixes many of the historical inaccuracies as well as the map.

I think development is an OK idea but I put a higher priority on seeing it programmatically cleaner.  The stug battalion bug should be fixed (I can only get it sensible by changing all the Stug battalions to Jpz battalions in Editwir).  But that's an example of how getting into finicky historical detail can make things go wrong and detract from playability! I want the conversion of things like Panzer 3 pools to stugs, the upgrading of Pz 4D & E to G, and fewer niggly types in aircraft use and aircraft production.  Just make all the LA's & FW 190's fighterbombers in my view, and somehow create a ground attack class that can include all the light bombers and tankbusters so they dont call SB2s & B25s divebombers (now there's some incredible historical innacuracy!).  But thats an example how once you start changing things a chaos of suggestions ensues!  Needs extensive discussion and some consensus like this.

I believe the African Front wasn't destroyed until May 1943 at Tunis. Four German military disaster in chronological order:

Stalingrad -- Feb 1943, entire army destroyed
Tunis -- May 1943, entire front destroyed
Normandy -- June 1944, new enemy front created
Operation Bagration -- July 1944, entire army group destroyed, another trapped

Stalingrad was significant in that it showed that the German military can be brought to its knees.

Here's the link to the Possum variant, it features an updated map and expanded equipment and OOB

Thanks Silvanski - much appreciated.

Played this as a young man as 2nd front - after playing many other east front games I keep coming back to it as it just seems to have far more depth than many other more modern takes on the conflict. Hopefully 2by3 will push on & make something more graphically pleasing.

Actually nobody asked them if they want to join Wehrmacht. Many of them were forced to do that.

Polish 2nd Corps, fighting in Italy, was strenghtened by many Poles, which were forced to join Wehrmacht, and then captured during African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns.

I disagree: there were some Poles which were consripted but they were not from Cracow, Lodz nor Warsaw - rather from Gdansk/Danzig or other cities not marked on a map. It's worth mentioning Germans created many international units and literally all conquered nations were represented but the Poles, the Czech and I guess the Serbs.

There were Dannish units, Norwegian, Dutch, Belgian, French, Spanish, Italian, Austrian, Slovak, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Latvian and Finnish but there were no Polish, Czech and Serbian units fighting for Germans.

Actually Prague should have 0 human factor for the Germans, but since there is no Bratislava - it can be somehow explained why it has some human resources.

Population point in Poland, etc. could simply be understood to represent German manpower freed up by the use of Polish "guest workers".
