Some pathfinding observasions

Post by Jorgen_CAB »

One thing that seem as an issue.

When a Constructor is given the mission to go and repair a ship it does not seem to account for nebulas so if you have an empire in a game with dense nebula in spiral galaxy it can be quite irritating.

When the Constructor tries to go to the ship it wants to repair it often will fly into the nebula and often result in that you will have to get rid of them.

I'm pretty sure this is what is happening... normally otherwise it usually path around the system, but when the target is not in a system it seems this pathing is ignored somehow.

Do you have saves and screenshots showing this?

To be honest I should not need much of any screenshot or saves for this, though I will attach some evidence here anyway.

I have made some additional observation.

This is not limited to constructors but to any ships in the game that target something in space that is not in a system for example. It then don't path around system... just take any ship and select another ship in space... it now don't path around nebulas anymore.

Ships that move to repair seem to also have the same issues for some reason, they can gladly move through nebula, they simply move the shortest path and don't rout around nebulas.

In the first picture for example a transport was damaged at the "Mirage" system and then headed straight through the nebula to the "Laue" system.

In the second picture you have the constructor moving toward a disabled ship that also happen to be in the "Inhibitor" system, but it still refuse to path around the nebula and go straight through it.

So... the conclusion are that if the target is in space not a system asset then ships will ignore pathing around nebula if that is faster.
In addition something is also wrong when ship tries to run back for repair as they also don't seem to path around nebula. Although I'm not sure if this is only when ships do so automatically as they often seem to path around nebula when you do a "repair and refuel" order, but then they also refuel.

This should be super easy for you to recreate in any game as this is consistent throughout the game all the time. As I always play on a dens nebula spiral galaxy this happen very frequently. I often have ships stuck for years doing nothing but trying to get somewhere.
