How to deal with other players abandoning the game

I've had several games where the other player simply abandoned the game. Didn't surrender, just never came back and after waiting 6 weeks the system ends the game as a tie. Is there anyway to address this situation?

Over time I found that folks who are regulars on the Matrix Forums generally don't bail. You will almost always get consistent matches with no ghosting and see completing games win or lose.
I would avoid open challenges on the PBEM server or engaging with unknowns on the Steam boards.
Best to ask for a MP match on the Multiplayer sub-forum and have them contact you through PMs for passwords and what you expect.
