Turn 88 Sep 27, 1863

RP: Another ALV off the coast. Yankees are up to something.
They also attacked my Monitor off Savannah.

Game needs another name of CSS Monitor equivalent ships. South didn't build Monitors. ;)

Reinf: Gunboat to Jacksonville. Hoping I can somehow use these gunboats to stop their troops ships but I have a problem with enough ports to hide them in until they are needed.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 45, Fr 36, Sp 47. Land: 97/100. Navy: 28/15.
Convoy: 380 (30 stopped), MPP: 1520/1460. FS: 62/89.

Fighting Spirit for both sides is slowly declining. But I am hoping that the Unions will hit 50% well before mine hits 75% and give me a fighting edge. Unfortunately, the plot shows it leveling off some for the Union.

Turn 90 Oct 19, 1863.

RP: Transport moving south along coast. Still don't know their objective.
Minor attacks along all the lines.

Inf. Brigade from Texas arrives in El Paso. Still not enough in Arizona to attack.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 47, Fr 37, Sp 48. Land: 99/112. Navy: 28/15.
Convoy: 490 (25 stopped). MPP: 1620/1550. FS: 61/89.

Killed an Indian Cav. in Indian Territory.

In Kentucky I press northward some killing one Inf. Division.

Turn 92 Nov 10, 1863.

RP: AVL off Florida, up to something. Also, one off Norfolk.
Union attacks along the Kentucky line kill two of my Corps there. The downside of trying to advance the line.

Reinf: Inf. Div to Nashville.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 48, Fr 38, Sp 50. Land: 99/111. Navy: 29/15.
Convoy: 500 (15 stopped). MPP: 1620/1560. FS: 60/88.

Fighting Spirit for both Union and Rebs seems to be falling at about 1% per turn. That will mean the Union will hit the next morale reduction soon, but the Rebels won't be far behind.

I am going to try to limit my fighting until the Union takes that morale hit. But I am having a hard time finding combat situations where my attacks are supposed to kill more points than my unit will take for attacking.

In Kentucky I kill a division at Madisonville.
In Virginia I kill one division and drive two back.

Turn 94 Dec 2, 1863.

RP: Union sank one of my Ironclads off Charleston. Union Marines landed and took Norfolk. Triggering a hit to my European support which had reach 50% last turn. They also killed one of my Brigades in the process.
I guess to support their invasion of SE Virginia they launched attacks along the Northern Viriginia line killing two more divisions. In Kentucky they sank one of my River Ironclads. Also, started advancing southward in Missouri.

I took a beating this turn from the Yanks. Apparently shook me up so bad I forgot to record the Report statuses.

Reinf: Division and a RR Battery to Richmond. Gunboat in Georgetown.

I am moving Beauregard to a rail head so he can move to SE Va. Also, moved various units from around Richmond and from the deep south by rail to meet the invasion but it will take a while for these troops to get into blocking positions.

Due to the heavy casualties in Union turn, most of my lines either rebuilt in place or tried to draw back a hex to prevent more attacks next turn. The Northern Virginia line was able to get good separation except in the valley. Hopefully the rough terrain there will protect that end of my line.

In W. Va. my Partisan unit moves toward Ohio taking Guyandotte near the border. Hopefully this will draw off some Union forces.

Purchase: 2 Inf. Div. and 2 Corps.

Decision Event: Do I want to levee a tax to raise additional 150 MPP per turn? This will cost me 5000 FS.

Right now, my income exceeds my needs, so I decide No. I rather keep my Morale from dropping as long as I can. This turns out to be a questionable choice later because heavy casualties and loss of European support does leave me short on MPP's. Making it worse is that most of my rebuilds are now Corps which cost a lot when upgrades included.

Turn 96 Dec 24, 1963

RP: Snow in SE Va gives me a small reprieve from attacks. Attacks along the lines were much more limited this turn.

Reinf: None. (Bad time for no body to show up).

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 32, Fr 23, Sp 35. Land: 101/111. Navy 29/14.
Convoy: 400 (25 stopped). MPP: 1620/1500. FS: 57/85.

Loss of Norfolk caused quite a drop in support. Spain went from 50% to 35%. This is one of the things that worried me about taking the King Cotton option. It is very easy for the Union to do something to European support. So betting on being able to get one of the European countries to join you is a long shot.

My Fighting Spirit took quite a hit, but the Union's continues dropping too. I am now down to 85% but it is still a slow linear decline.

Turn 98 Feb 8, 1864.

RP: Union in SE Va. kill rail gun. They also take the port of Beaufort.
Snow and Rain in most of the map so action is light this time.
They may have reinforced the northern force in New Mexico.

Reing: 1 Corps and 1 Div to Nashville and to Richmond.
Monitors to Apalachicola and New Berne.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 33, Fr 23, Sp 35. Land: 107/114. Navy: 30/16.

Turn 100 Mar 17, 1864.

RP: Union attrition attacks all along my lines. They also sink one of my Ironclads and destroyed Ft. Cobb while taking the port of Elizabeth City. Union is slowly grinding me down.

Reinf: Gunboat to Pensacola, Montor to Charleston and Mobile, Marine to Mobile, and Corps to Richmond.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 26, Fr 15, Sp 27. Land: 109/116. Navy 31/18.

Turn 102 Apr 18, 1864.

Union attacks along the Kentucky line with advances in the eastern part of state.
Major attack in N. Va. taking Alexandria and killing a division.
Union also sank one of my River Timberclads.

Reinf: Monitors to Mobile and Georgetown, 2 Inf. Corps to Richmond.

Reports: Mex 23/20. Uk 27, Fr 16, Sp 27. Land: 111/117. Navy: 30/19.
Convoy: 270 (55 stopped). MPP: 1620/1340. FS: 53/83.

Had to fall back in Arizonia to put my units in better supply and hopefully hurt their supply status.

In Indian Territory I have a lot of Indians but very little offensive capacity.

In Virginia I was able to kill a Union Corps but gave up trying to hold Alexandria.

Turn 104 May 10, 1864.

RP: Union killed my gunboat off Pensacola area.
In the Valley they killed my RR gun and one division.
In Kentucky attacks all along the line including taking out two of my Corps.
Bad turn all around for the Rebs.

Reinf: River Ironclad to Nashville along with two Corps. Gunboat to Apalachicola and Pensacola. Also a Monitor to Apalchicola.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 28, Fr 16, Sp 27. Land: 111/115. Navy: 30/22.
Convoy: 280 (50 stopped). MPP: 1620/1350. FS: 52/81.

Fighting Spirit dropped 1 for the Union and two for the Rebs. A race to see who gets the next morale drop from FS.

In Kentucky I am only able to kill one Union division in retalliation to the two Corps they killed. Not good.

I am trying to gather enough naval power in the Gulf to go on the offensive there. So far, an Ironclad with four Monitors and a couple of Gun Boats around Mobile and Ft. Pickens area. Also have a Marine unit on transports but not sure I can get them safely to any place useful.

Turn 106 Jan 1, 1864.

RP: Union advancing in West and attacking all along the lines. They also sink one of my gunboats in Beaufort. Attacks are mostly attrition with no kills.

Reinf: None.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 28, Fr 17, Sp 27. Land: 110/114. Navy: 28/22.
Convoy: 360 (50 stopped). MPP: 1620/1440. FS: 50/80.

Next turn the Union Fighting Spirit will drop below 50% giving me a morale advantage but it won't last long before my 80% drops below 75%.

Meanwhile in Arizona I am pulling slowly back hoping lack of supply will limit what the Union can do. I have more units in the area than the Union but to many are cavalry and regiments. I don't seem to be able to get enough attack power to do any damage.

Turn 108 Jun 23, 1864.

RP: Union killed 2 of my divisions in Kentucky. With attacks all along my lines. They also killed a division in Va plus one of the Partisan units. In the process they made advances all along the Ky and Va fronts. Looks like they have a Ship of the LIne on the Jacksonville convoy route just out of my coastal range.

Reinf: Division to Virginia and RR artillery to Nashville.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 31, Fr 18, Sp 30. Land: 110/112. Navy: 29/22.
Convoy; 350 (80 stopped). MPP: 1620/1420. FS: 48/78.

Foreign support increasing but being offset by better blockades.

Union Fighting Spirit drops below the 50% mark. Unfortunately, Rebel FS at 78% will probably be also dropping below 75% in a turn or two.

RP: They sank AVL. So much for the Rebel attempt at amphibious warfare.
In Virginia they advance south to occupy the land I retreated from.
In SE Va they killed my Cav. Brigade and in Ky they kill a division.
Otherwise, a light turn for combat.

Reinf: Div. to Richmond.

Turn 112 Jul 21, 1864

RP: Missouri they killed one of my Rangers.
Just attrition attacks along the line killing one division each in Kentucky, N. Va. and WE Va.

Reinf: 2 Corps to Richmond and Gunboat to Mobile.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 32, Fr 19, Sp 34. Land: 108/108. Navy: 29/23.

Big drop in Convoy income. Don't really know why.
Also, will be last turn where I have a significant morale edge. Going to drop below 75% next turn.

In SE Va I was able to kill one of their Marine units.

Rest of Virginia I pull back to a more defensible line. Raing though stops me from getting all my troops behind the Rappahannock river line.

Turn 114 Aug 4, 1864.

Union advances from Ft. Monroe. Trying to advance to Richmond on both sides of the James River?
Attacks in the Valley. Union slowly pushing south there.

Reinf: None.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 32, Fr 19, Sp 35. Land: 108/107. Navy: 29/23.
Convoy: 270 (80 stopped). MPP: 1750/1350. FS: 44/75.

Union now has more land units than I do.
The Navy is getting more equal, but my ships are generally inferior to the Union's.
My Convoy supplies keeps falling. Union now has a substantial production advantage.
The turn is unusual for no drop in FS for either side.

Arizona has become a stalemate. Neither of us can do significant damage to the other.

In Arkansas the Union make substantial advances. Apparently, they have concentrated considerable forces in the center. I will fall back toward the Arkansas river and supplies.

Turn 116 Aug 18, 1864.

RP: They sank another one of my gunboats. And, killed a Corps in Kentucky. But the advance out of Ft. Monroe to Williamsburg quickly turned tail and ran back to the entrenchments in front of the fort.

At Fort Pickens I was able to sink one of their Ironclads.

Turn 122 Oct 3, 1864.

RP: Union killed one of my River Gunboats off Cairo. Also killed a division in Kentucky. Otherwise just some attrition attacks along the line.

Reinf: Inf. Div. to Richmond and two to Nashville. Gunboat to New Orleans. Siege Artillery to Richmond.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 34, Fr 22, Sp 39. Land: 109/110. Nav: 28/23.
Convoy: 290 (75 stopped). MPP: 1760/1340. FS: 37/72.

Union Fighting Spirit in steady decline. Although I have ever figured out exactly where the negative FS comes from. They only take a FS hit for unit kills if the unit is out of supply. But most of our current fighting is very low keyed. I wouldn't expect it to have a noticeable effect. It looks more like there is some negative per turn FS for the Union that requires them to take territory to offset.

Turn 124 Oct 25, 1864

RP: Union makes landings west of Norfolk trying to get behind my lines. Way down in Florida on the west coast they kill my cavalry that I sent down to check to see what they had garrisoning the port down there. In Arkansas the Union fell back probably to get better supply. In Kentucky the back and forth continues with the Union killing one of my Corps and a Railroad gun. They also reoccupy Bowling Green.

Reinf: Corps to Nashville and Inf. Div. to Richmond.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 34, Fr 23, Sp 33. Land: 110/109. Navy: 28/23.
Convoy: 400 (55 blocked). MPP: 1800/1440. FS: 33/71.

My convoy income jumped up quite a bit, 290 to 400. Have no idea why. Blockading dropped 20 points but that shouldn't have that much effect.

Union Fighting Spirit for some reason took quite a drop, 37 to 33. Rarely see greater than 2 points. I wonder if some event occurred.

In Kentucky I counterattack killing one of their Corps but other than that I pull back further south.

In Virginia I kill a division in the Valley but mostly put at least a hex between my line and theirs so they can't get any easy kills.

SE Virginia: There attempt to turn my line runs into the rather large concentration of forces I made to create an Army for Beauregard. My counter attacks kill one of their landing divisions and drive others back except for the almost surround Marine in Suffolk.

Down at the mouth of the Mississippi my ships kill a Union Gunboat.

Research: naval Engines.

Purchase: Corps, Cav. Div. and RR Battery.

Event: Presidential Elections - Lincoln wins but it did apparently give them any bonuses that I can see.

Turn 126 Nov 16, 1864.

RP: In SE Va they kill one of my divisions. One of their Monitors runs into one of my Ironclads and gets sunk.
In Virginia they move against my right near Fredericksburg killing one of my divisions.

Reinf: Ironclad to Jacksonville, Gunboat to Apalachicola, and Corps to Richmond.

Reports: Mex: 23/20. UK 34, Fr 24, Sp 33. Land: 109/108. Navy: 26/25.
Convoy: 390 (35 stopped), MPP: 1800/1440. FS: 31/70.

I almost have equality in number of Land and Naval units. Probably don't have equal quality in the Navy.

Getting Old Abe reelected apparently did nothing for their Fighting Spirit.

Along the Viriginia northern line I counterattack where they exposed units by attacking in their turn. In the valley I kill a division. Their division that crossed the river east of Fredericksburg is easily wiped out. One of the Corps in front of Fredericksburg is killed along with a division at Chancellorsville. That should set them back for a turn in Northern Virginia.

In SE Virginia I spend the turn straightening my line up. I can't rebuild all the units due to supply difficulties.
