Off the top of my head, the big one is that you can play until 1970, which means you now get into the missile era of 20th century naval warfare as well as fully into the supercarrier and jet aircraft age and expanded air operations as well as longer range submarines.

You also have a 1935 start.

Within the game itself there are also other additions and improvements to the gameplay throughout all eras.

You can find a great more detailed summary here:

There have already been a number of additions and changes since the Expansion Catalog was put out earlier - as time goes by more details will of course be pushed out.

Thanks!

As this started as an expansion for RTW2, will there be some incentive /discount for those who have RTW2 which is now a dead branch?

There's been no official decision on pricing or anything else related to that yet, which means that we don't know. We will make the pricing known before release.

This did start as a less ambitious expansion, but has ended up taking years of development and turned into a separate release.

I just want to say that supporting a small (and I mean SMALL!) independent developer is a strong reason to buy the whole enchilada and not worry about where it began. Sometimes when you do that you are taking a chance on a developer who might or might not really deliver a good final product. Not in this case, though. ! have played RTW2 almost since its release. It is a fantastic game -- challenging and immersive at both tactical and strategic levels. Back when this new package was still "just" an expansion of RTW2, what was being offered sounded terrific and I fully expect more of the same here. My only worry is that "feature bloat" will further delay its release.

EDIT: Sorry, I don't want to start a fight here, but I did want to add something else.
In my opinion, there are no grounds at all for owners of RTW2 to expect a discount on RTW3. RTW2 went through a normal development cycle, during which there were what? -- two dozen or so patches that fixed bugs and added new features in the couple of years after release. Something like that. At that point, and well before the agreement with Matrix, William announced an expansion and it was quickly made clear that the expansion would cost extra. So no one who was actively playing the game at the time came away thinking that RTW2 was incomplete or that anything had been promised for free in an expansion that wasn't made good on. No money was ever collected in a pre-release sale of the "expansion", or anything like that. So where does that allow for owners of RTW2 to reasonably expect a discount on the new game? I can't see it.

You won’t start a fight, but for me - just a personal choice, who cares right - it will mean that I will not purchase unless it hits the 50% sale point. We all vote with our wallet. No problem.
