Is it possible to intentional ram and create block ships

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

Is it possible to intentional ram and create block ships

Post by Tempest5 »

I may pick up this game and thinking of hypothetical attacks on enemy harbors in WWI like Zeebrugge-quick in and quick out-damn the cost in vessel losses. Want to just design ships and test my ideas for 1914-1916 WWI period.

No and no.

Ramming was a dead practice by the 1890s.

hahaha SMS Nassau tried to ram HMS Spitfire at Jutland. Numerous incidents ships ran down u-Boats.
Wanted to design a hypothetical raid into a German Anchorage....

'In case signals cannot be seen, or perfectly understood, no captain can do very wrong if he places his ship alongside that of an enemy.' -Some guy.
So we give them the pointed end.

I guess what happened between HMS Glowworm and the Admiral Hipper. Wasn't viable.
What about the HMS York at Souda Bay?
Oh well. Never mind. I'll pass on this game.

You actually prove my point with those incidents.

Submarines don't really participate in battles in RtW so can be excluded from your list.

HMS Glowworm got lucky twice, firstly that they were close enough to even consider ramming and secondly that KMS Hipper was too slow to recognise the attack and turn away; otherwise she'd have failed.

Kamikaze boats are something of a specialist area - and they weren't particularly successful either.

But congratulations on finding ONE success of a purpose-built warship deliberately ramming another post 1890 out of the hundreds of battles fought.
