Lesson of War - Soviets learned it the hard way

Post by Ekaton »

A very interesting scenario. The temptation to defend Stadelhofen was there, but I seriously doubted that I could get all my guys in place before the contact. Grafenhausing-Steinfeld offered much more room for maneuvre.

The enemy eagerly moved towards my trap, softened slightly by arty on the way (command delay did cause it to get slightly delayed and it wasn't very effective in the end):

And this is the outcome:

Soviets got absolutely obliterated before they could fully grasp the situation. Their tanks and APCs had to maneuvre between all four units of my 3rd company, and most of them died before my other company had a chance to cut them off in the direction of Schedernhof (they did destroy the majority of Soviet artillery there, though, as it was fully exposed to ATGMs). Note that only two of my units got destroyed, the rest of my losses are listed as fallen out.

It really shows that when properly employed, German units really pack a punch and are a nightmare for the Soviets when the latter are caught in a crossfire.

Thank you devs for this great experience. Setting up the trap and seeing it unfold was a lot of fun, especially when Soviets behaved exactly the way I hoped they would!

Thanks for that.

I have never had any ideas of my own on how to use the Germans well.

Thanks for sharing this. I learned it also the hard way, because i tried to defend Stadelhofen with the 2nd company :(
I have to thank the 3rd company, which i also placed at Gräfenhäusling, that i got a marginal win. My problem now is, the lesson i learned, didn't work at the scenario Crossing the Waldnaab. Did you tried this too?

Thanks for sharing. I’m working on an AAR for the Soviet side.

Congratulations, nice win, thanks for sharing.
If you play the same scenario again, most likely you'll see the Soviets perform a different maneuver. The scenarios come with multiple battle plans, and only at the end inform you about which plan you were facing (USSR BP 3 here).

p.s. You might already have discovered this but you can save 'full map' screen shots using the Game menu, Full Map Screen Capture (Ctrl + Z), even when playing zoomed in.
