Interest in ELO for War in the Pacific?

Post by ThunderLizard11 »

There's been an ELO rank match system for World at War for a while. What is the level of interest in doing one for WitP?

Here's how the WaW ELO worked:

Every time a game finishes, the winner gains points from the loser based on how strong the two players are. If you beat a higher-rated player, you gain more points - as you were expected to have less chance of winning. In the event of a draw, a small number of points may go from the stronger to the weaker player (if two equal players draw there is no change.)

So over time a strong player will gain a high score and a weak(er) player will have a lower score. If a player becomes stronger with practice then they will eventually win more matches and climb in the ratings!

How does this work if games take 4+ months to finish? I understand some folks may resign halfway when all looks lost, but what if you play to the bitter end every time? For the main campaign.

Once the game is registered then if one player resigns the other player is the winner. Games are registered when the players start. If you play to the end that's fine. Many games on the WaW ELO last months as well and some a few days.

If someone does resign part way through, there is the possibility to use the Scorecard to provide a score that can be fed into the data.

A ladder might encourage more players.

I'd be interested in participating a ladder / ELO system for this game. Would like one for the Europe ETO too.
