Great game but 2

Post by jason oates »

In AB1 i had a wish list for AB2.

I had hoped that Infantry were not tied to one particular APC so if the APC was destroyed the Infantry were effectively stranded.
I had hoped that there were transports for ATGM teams and mortars.
I had hoped that Helicopters had some method of command and control from a battle group command structure and that they were not inherently suicidal.
I had hoped that there was artillery fire correction for observed targets.

Yes there have been improvements but somehow the improvements have not addressed many of the frustrations of AB1.

It is a very good game despite my moaning about it.

I can only salt your wound by saying that it is like that by design.

Tying infantry to their transport, other than TO&E issue, is related to players micromanaging and overusing the point advantage versus AI in order to save on transports and use only one mot./mech. formation to move largely static force.

Transports for support teams have appeared, and are being increased in number, where TO&E allows (or where it makes sense, as overcrowding purchase screen with dismounted mortars in trucks doesn't make much sense if there are self-propelled variants). Keep in mind some formations will stay dismounted/static only for scenario making purposes.

Helicopters, whenever someone likes that or not, are modelled as they were used in the era, and if used properly are some of the most overpowered units in the game. That suicidal remark makes me think your are probably designating their battle positions on top of the enemy units.

There is already apstracted artillery observation, but actual spotting rounds were ommited intentionaly as players would use them as pre-warning to move from harm.

Happy hunting!
