"Stay" on the very early turns always means defeat against a good german player.
Delay his advance and fight maybe for the Dniepr, Smolensk, VK, Ilmen, Leningrad line
So for your poll, I think it's a "run"
But if you stay and win it will be "THE" victory

fine i will vote, run as that sounds like your best option.
As we have talked against a good german player the soviets just about dont have a chance in the game now....aside from some pro-german naysayers who still think Germany taking Leningrad and moscow in 1941 is a "balanced" game lol.

If you go there will be trouble and if you stay it will be double. So you should run, (according to The Clash anyway).
Actually I agree with them. Fighting forward against a competent Axis player is suicide in 41. Even Brian legs it in 41

POLL
Should I stay or should I go? That is the question of this poll. I have played with this question for the last few days and both have their pro's and con's. Yes, I still have not moved a counter in this turn yetI can make this game like a great many other games where the Soviets retreat. Or play with the Germans up front. What should it be people of the Forum? Run and have a long game OR play with the Germans up front and possible game over if I do this wrong?
Lol interesting poll.
As the opponent I probably can't vote (it's over after all). But I suppose "stay" really means run slowly, while "run" means run outright? Anyway, my experience as both Axis and Soviet shows that basically just run away is the only viable Soviet strategy. There really isn't much choice there. It's not like whether you like this or choose that. Instead, any Soviet that does not retreat fast, does not retreat.
For me and probably most Axis players, a Soviet player that stand firm and fight is worth respect but is relatively easy to deal with. The biggest problem always is, will Soviet come out and play? As an example, I'm currently in a game with Galex. He has adopted a strategy of keeping most of his troops at least 5 hexes (more in early turns) away from German panzers, though he also left a few small units here and there in critical spots as road bumps. Granted that we have some houserules in this game to restrict panzer movement, but still he is giving me very difficult time and so far I find it hard to deliver a decisive blow.

The problem with running is that it is very easy to have to run behind Moscow, very very quickly.
(And so loosing the game in bitter end scenario because getting both leningrad and moscow give so much points to the german).
Having to fight at moscow very early is a nasty but frequent surprise and a fixed position is nearly impossible to hold against the german without giving some ground.
you have to actively slow down the german or the game is over.
It is a delicate nearly impossible balance.
Brakes are for cowards !!

I agree. Running steadily could have worked all the time, but then defending Moscow for too long without the flexibility to step back very often leads to a collapse of the front, and an early loss by Soviet player which they don't deserve.
On the other hand, Soviet probably can afford to lose at least Moscow, if not both, in terms of industry and manpower. Therefore, if both opponents can agree on a house rule victory condition and disregard the Bitter End victory points, Soviet players may have a better room to maneuver and fully utilize their skills.

I fully agree that fighting forward across the front is a suicide strategy vs. a skilled Axis player. I just like to cause chaos and HLYA already fought somewhat forward T1, therefore the "stay".

Nah Hardluck didn't fight "somewhat" forward T1. He fought "very very much" forward, the most forward Soviet deployment I've ever seen including my own[:D]
