Did Germany use O-chit this impulse?
warspite1

Yes - post 999 does not use the word Chit but states offensive. Would that have changed your use of aircraft?

Are you sure it's ok to mention O-chits here? Some women are sensitive. [:-]

Impulse: 4 (Axis)

Land Combat (cont):
Japan
The Japanese bring in a bomber to take the attack to 7:1 and automatic.

Germany
The French meanwhile react swiftly to the impending attack. With intelligence reports coming through of changes to German deployments - particularly armour - General Billotte rushes his Army Group reserves to the southern Belgian border.

The Germans bring in two bombers (5 points). Do the French wish to bring in their aircraft? The armee de l'air has two fighters (5+3) and one 3-strength bomber. The Germans/Italians have a 5 and 3 x4-strength fighters.

Air to Air Combat:

The French bring up their closest fighter units to the German schwerpunkt. The Germans meanwhile utilise the services of the Italians as close support for the bombers of KG1 and KG5, while allowing the Bf-109's of JG6 to target the enemy fighters.

Jul/Aug 1940
Impulse: 4 (Axis)

Round 1
Allied - 14 (None)
Axis - 11 (DC) - no Allied bombers to clear through so no effect

The first round of combat was no more than 'handbags'.

Round 2
Allied - 17 (DX PX) The German must destroy the front fighter of bomber. The pilot is killed. The fighter is destroyed.
Axis - 19 (AX PX) The French fighter is destroyed and the pilot killed.

The French pilots have done themselves proud, although in taking on the better quality German fighters, they left the bombers to fly to their target.

Land Combat (cont):
Japan
The Japanese bombers deliver their deadly ordnance, pulverising the communists' makeshift trenches and shelters. [2-added to the attack].

Germany
Both bombers deliver their load on target. But will it be enough? [5-added to the attack]

Meanwhile Billotte's efforts to bring his Group Level assets to bear are once again thwarted as refugees clog the roads and make progress for the military too slow. [A 3 is thrown]

Jul/Aug 1940
Impulse: 4 (Axis)

Land Combat (cont):
Japan
The Japanese crush the hapless communist forces and two corps march west of the Yellow River, meeting up with their comrades just east of the mountain line shielding Nanyang.

Germany
With the HQ Support effort failing and von Leeb doubling the attackers, the odds are exactly 5:1 +3 and no fractional odds throw. Reinhardt's XLI Panzer Corps lead the attack, driving a wedge between the French VII and XIII Corps - a wedge that becomes a chasm as the motorised units of the VII Motorised Corps exploits. Assault boats are used to ford the river on the east of the French position and, after pontoons are constructed, the Infantry of I Corps (supported by the panzers of the HG Division) isolate an entire French division which folds under the pressure; the 1st Infantry practically ceases to exist. The XIII Infantry Corps is then surrounded and destroyed [a 10 is thrown - the Germans do not convert].

Impulse: 4 (Axis)

Advance after combat:
Germany

The panzers of the XLI and XLVI Corps push south in an effort to exploit the gap between the units guarding the Maginot Line and those shielding Paris.

Rebase:
Japan

A unit of Ki-51 in Kweilin rebases to the north with General Umezu, while a naval air unit in Kaifeng replaces it.

Italy

The Italian air Chief of Staff politely enquires of his German counterpart as to the chances of getting their aircraft back, please. The Italian is told in no uncertain terms that the Germans [respectfully] ask Rome to shut the hell up about their aircraft. Furthermore, if they so much as start up the engines of the Z.506B without the prior approval of Berlin, then the next invasion the Germans mount will be mounted against the country directly south of Austria....

HQ Reorganisation:
Germany

von Leeb reorganises the Stukas of StG3

Does anyone have any idea why the armor effect in the last battle was reported as +1.13? Using the rules you are using, shouldn't it simply be +1? MWiF certainly seemed to use just +1, since there was no fractional odds effect, so this is just a cosmetic problem, but it is disconcerting.

So, that master tactician and all-round military genius Adolf Hitler was right to put his complete trust for a do-or-die offensive in a defensive warfare, infantry expert.... who knew?

The success has clearly gone to von Leeb's head - he can't help but betray his true emotions - he is in sheer ecstasy at the result!
