Uh, I think you sent me the wrong turn. It feels like Deja Vu here :)

Anyways, if this is the right turn then a mortar squad is being decimated in the middle, along with YET ANOTHER SNLF squad. A cavalry squad is destroyed in the south.

Artillery pounds the North and the South. I really think this is the wrong turn though :)

The USMC continues to hold the line in the middle...barely. The floodgates are creaking and there is no longer any semblance of a battle line. Units are separated from each other, fighting local battles to hold back the enemy. Stuarts are quickly running out of .30 ammo.

An Engineer squad and an SNLF squad is destroyed in the middle. A few enemy squads north of the middle VHes are also forced back with casualties.

To the North, the Raiders who have fought exceptionally well from the beginning of this bloody battle has reformed a line. Some 'squads' have nobody left but their sergeants who have taken up in carrying their M1, the squad BAR and satchel charges. These men will receive the congressional medal of honor for their actions.

To the south a Stuart forces back a cavalry squad which has immobilized it.

Well, you can't have everything :) The Japanese infantry is as tough as it is, I can't imagine any infantry tougher than them. The USMC and the SS might be up to par with them, but not in the jungle.

I'm wondering how much more reserves you got in your army, they seem to keep on coming no matter how many squads I destroy! I can just imagine what it feels like if China ever succesfully lands troops anywhere... Imagine 100 million soldiers in NY hehehehe

Posthumously, I'm afraid.
Sgt Sato OTOH still lives and he chased off those marines shooting at my infantry.:D
Nearby a .30, an AT team and an engineer squad get shot to pieces. So is the crew from an abandoned M3 on the hill. Let's see how fast I can empty the other one.;)

You'll see my reserves in about five turns.

It's looking really bad for the USMC... Raiders up North reform once again and step back once more. They are holding no matter the cost...

The middle is becoming unstable as Japanese artillery and infantry pound on positions there. An immobilized Stuart won't rally

The South is lost definitely...it is soon gonna be swarmed by what I count as 3 cavalry squads, a SNLF/Inf A/Inf B squad, a Flame Tank lurking somewhere and probably a lot more. My poor, immobilized Stuart down there has determined to bunker down and fight to the death.

A bunch of tubes are called to pound the map. I hope they help hold the line ... somehow

After this battle let's have a rematch in reverse roles, with me playing the Japs :) You can play the USMC, the Americans or ANZAC.

DIdn't I ask you to just hand over those tanks way out in front a couple of turns back? One of your crews was very displeased for a very short time with your refusal.:)
The Stuart in the south didn't put up much of a fight, just sat there and well, you know, whoosh, whoosh, bang, embers. the last grunts in the immediate vicinity are wiped out as well.

The middle will fall and all Stuarts will be destroyed. Except maybe that one stuck in the far north. Can't get to it on time, not even sure whether I already eliminated the crew or not.

Rematch will be fine, I'll set one up this weekend.
I'll probably play ANZAC, as I haven't tried them yet.

Up North the Raiders inch their way slowly back to the VHes. Better not have anyone there by the time they get there cuz they are MAD! hehehehe. These Raiders are the toughest USMC I have ever seen, followed by Inf D squads and bringing up the bottom are USMC Para squads (these guys just relatively suck.) Engineers are almost on par with Raiders due only because to their satchel charges.

In the middle, troops who haven't moved since the beginning of the battle are brought into play, moving nearer and nearer the middle VHes. The Stuart there is holding, its nearly-fused .30 cal pointed at any threat that might pop out of the jungle. The crew of that Stuart are heroes, 8 kills to its credit. That would be 8 squads of infantry or a few tanks plus some infantry.

I have no forces left in the South:eek:

Artillery is called in to pound the whole map. Hope they cause some kind of mass hysteria hehehehe. Hope your flame tank breaks down too! heheheeh :)

No, they fell asleep after a 14hr work day.
Anyways, back to the game.

Raiders are indeed tough. they're the only ones left in the north.
Those BAR squads are nice too on a little more open terrain, BTW.
The Stuart on the central hill just won't give up, even though the accompanying infantry mostly has.
75mm shells fail to impress,as usual. Japanese arty is supporting the imminent assault on your home VHs.

Your turn.

Well, that Stuart in the middle hill has fired its last burst from its .30 cal. It has literally depleted its ammunition, and is left with AP, useless now...

On the other hand, infantry squads in the middle are still holding, fighting back Japanese rifle, MG and mortar fire with 1903s and BARs, forcing a squad back. A massive regrouping is taking place near the middle.

To the north the raiders still hold, awaiting a barrage from the 75s.

150mm's fall on my home VHes, causing around 3 casualties. They too are awaiting the 75s

Those 75s are my only hope now in keeping my VHes.

Yes, those 75s have mostly been ineffective this game, BUT they are pretty good in providing suppression in a wide area. If I continued attacking instead of bunkering down in defense, some things might have been different. Although that's not to say that I didn't try. (Remember that failed all-Stuart rush in the middle?) That caused me around 2 platoons of Stuarts (almost) and cost you a hell of a lot of infantry. But you seem to have a wall of infantry coming. The more I kill the more come...

Finally, the Stuart on the hill is destroyed. Two para and a D squad are also wiped out.
Found your Raiders, will be mopping them up soon.

Your Stuart charge got as far as it did b/c of all those .30s, not the howitzers. If my AA had been a bit more succesful, you wouldn't have had enough tanks left to try. Anyways, 'If only' hasn't wona battle yet.

The Raiders withdraw just in time as a barrage of 2 mortars, 81s I think, pounded on the space they previously occupied. True to Raider spirit, a new plan is drawn up for a counterattack.

In the middle, an immobilized Stuart rallies and fires its .30 cal for all its worth now at a passing Jap Inf A squad, decimating it almost completely.

The counter-attack in the middle will be put on hold as the marines are forced to withdraw before they get totally surrounded.

My home Vhes are pounded by 150mms, killing 2 more people. My recon squad in the south has seen nothing yet however, maybe contact will be made next turn. The Japanese better be prepared for a fierce battle as these marines wanna get even! :D  :D

75s once again turn to the jungle.

Mortars shift fire faster than Raiders run :D
Out of targets elsewhere, except for a few immobilised Stuarts.

A SNLF squad and an Inf A squad terminated in the middle by .30 cals.

Other than that, the marines are hunkering down to receive the inevitable Japanese attack.

Artillery pounds my poor Raiders up north. They can't rally under all the pressure...

My home VHes are also being cratered.

75s still have a lot of rounds between the batteries. Time to pound the map some more... Poor Philippines... I know now why the Filipinos love the Americans. Between reading Hampton Sides' Ghost Soldiers (A great book about the exploits of the 6th Ranger Battalion in Cabanatuan.) and this battle, the Americans really tried to hold on to these islands... :D

It's a draw!:D
13149-8523 for the USMC
Guess you hung on to those VHs long enough, huh?
If only I had some more turns, you'd be wiped of the map completely, your Raiders are already executed (all of them), the infantry in the middle is trying to outrun the japanese bullets with little succes and those few men on your home VHs wouldn't have put up much of a fight by the time the cavalry arrived. :D

Those 75 have a lot of shells indeed. Still firing after 25 turns, while the Japanes tubes were empty around turn 10 or so. Had to call in ammo carriers as reinforcements
Anyways, the password is vetkin. I'll post our rematch later today.
Let's see how well you do without lots of armour ;)

Holy crap!!!

I just viewed the map and saw that you still have probably 1/4-1/3 of your starting force!!! WHAT A HORDE!!!

On the other hand, yeah I guess the USMC held as well as they can, especially in the middle. The south collapsed faster than I expected it to though. Too bad for those Raiders up north though, they survived from turn 1 to 24. They almost made it. You're right, posthumous CMOHs for every single Raider up there, plus the surviving crewmen of the last Stuarts.

In hindsight, I should've taken a battery or 2 of 105s to supplement my 75 pack howitzers, they just weren't good enough to actually KILL anyone. (Probably something like a 1-2% chance per direct hit)

My password is viper. I'll await our rematch. I admit I'm pretty much an armor guy, but I'll do my best. As I've said b4, with infantry like the Japanese, who needs armor?? :D

Japan vs. ANZAC right?? Uh-oh... Quad .50s....

Quad .50s? Dang, must've missed those.
Don't think they'd be worth the points in a jungle fight though.

Ummm, there's a problem. I've already bought my units and am about to deploy when I found out that I can only deploy on the farthest right side hexes. Re-make the game, thanks :)

At least now you can get those Quad .50s :)

I'm not sure how good they are at raking jungle hexes though, maybe you're right
