Someone here said it takes 100 hours to do the Japanese Turn 1. Perhaps they meant days?

I heard the gorn was having trouble using his claws on the human-friendly keyboard and could never type the right version number for his game, nor his map, nor the Windows switches, nor Tracker, nor Intel Monkey. He bemoans the good ol' days when he could just tell his secretary to get off his lap and set it up for him. [;)]

I found the proof. The gorn is in his "Human general-dictator" guise while his employee is in her secretary-general of the gornian nations costume.

Throw rotten meat or fish on a dot base, then set up a CAP trap for his carrion scouts.
Use boobs as a maskirovka for your invasion movements.
Let it slip that you discovered a cuckoo bird sanctuary on Temoe Island. He will send KB to protect it.

some thoughts from a novice:

Organize and Framework

Decide what/where you want to hold, Lines of communications/supply, etc. and build them up. Keep contact with his forces so as to know what he is doing.

Decide how much of Submarine force will act on their own as hunters and how many will act with the fleet as scouts/sheepdogs.

Get pilot training programs going.

Decide how you are going to use your few carriers for the first year. enmass?, separated? etc.

Make use of your land carriers. When possible keep fleet carries near them to help in fighting KB.

Don't let units just set back in the states.

Keep some forces as a RDF -Rapid Deployment Force- to aid the units, if needed, that have a specific mission.

Recon/Search....Recon/Search...Recon/Search... even if it's by contact.

etc...

I once had a copy of SPI War in the Pacific board game and it only took us about 4 days to set up the first game( that included punching and trimming the counters on one copy.)

I don't think I ever punched mine. It was simply too big to play.
