Why bother with training pilots via tracom?

What exp do Jap pilots come out of the pool with after 12 months of training... can I get that exp faster by just taking an untrained pilot and having him fight for a couple months?

118? What do you mean? The picture shows turn until 253 (which was the current one, i just got a new turn :) )

I believe the national exp doesn't change because without TRACOM pilots it would be decreasing. According to the editor, IJN average should be 45 in '43. But it doesn't just change to 45 at January 1, it gradually decreases. So TRACOM pilots are actually keeping it up...

Arggh... sorry, I opened it only in the browser, so didn't see the whole picture.
As for the national level. As Michaelm wrote in some other thread, pilots from the last level of training should increase the basic overall.
ORIGINAL: michaelm
When the pilots from the training cycle (806 at exp 63) arrive (end of month), the average exp is recalculated.
This would come out as about 51 assuming the numbers stay constant.
Replacement pilots are always pulled from the 'In pool column'.

So I think, that it should be increasing from turn 208, when you reached the level of 54.
Those pilots, when transfered to general replacement pool should INCREASE the level of experience in this column.
But your level lowers to 49... [&:]
Maybe it's just equating with the programmed decrease, but...
I'd really like to see the change in the next month of your game, because the change from 54 to 63 (10-12) is a hell of a difference. [;)]

To add my experiences to the discussion:

I have something like 15 TRACOM pilots from the IJAAF. On March 1, 1942, I received an OPS message indicating that 154 IJA pilots had had their training expedited.

I'd be interested in hearing others' formulae as we move forward. Please update with your OPS information.

Very nice Chickenboy.  I've finally bumped up my IJN TRACOM pilots to 20.  I'm hoping for the best.

Did those 154 all graduate, or were they from different "classes" (months)?

Did they all graduate early or were they in different months of training and they advanced an extra month? (x pilots went from month 1 to 3, y pilots went from month 8 to 10, etc.)

Ah. Now I understand your question. I've got no idea. Believe it or not, I don't use WiTP tracker, so that level of tracking detail I cannot keep.

My interpretation of the OPS comment was that I had 154 new 35 EXP 'graduates', but I don't know about the impact on the underclassmen numbers.

To post some good news:

After patch 3 things seem to be working, IJN exp actually started to rise!

(I have 322 IJN pilots in TRACOM)

To add to / confuse this issue further:

I have increased my TRACOM IJNAF and IJAAF pilots substantially over my previous post. However, in April 1942, I got bupkis. No messages about any accelerated pilot pools of any types.

My opponent and I have kept in contact about this issue. He indicated that the USNAF got a bunch of accelerated pilots, but nothing for the USAAF (or vice versa), in spite of their sufficient TRACOM numbers.

Thus, I believe that there is some sort of roll involved with determining whether or not pilots are accelerated. This regardless of numbers of pilots in TRACOM.

I never use TRACOM simply because the Japs get more rookie pilots than they will ever need in the game, unless you can find a way to produce 10000 airframes per month!

Miller, I think that many of the folks that *do* use TRACOM are merely using it as a 'rainy day fund'. Since experienced pilots can be later swapped out of TRACOM directly into front line units (much like General Reserve), do you see any disadvantage of using this as a holding pen for the cream of the IJ crop?

To me acceleration doesn't matter. But TRACOM has an effect on the exp level the trainees are, and that is priceless :).
In my PBEM we are in the middle of november '42. If i didn't put pilots into tracom i would get trainees at 46 exp +/-5 by now. Instead i get them at 51 +/-5 =). If i can keep this up, or increase it.... ;)

And i do get acceleration messages.

I used up my cream of the crop a long time ago. I'd rather they fought whilst they still have a chance of getting through the CAP.......
