You really need a space opera AAR to help promote the game.Paradox are masters at using story AAR's to help sell games.

Demo sounds like a great idea!

I'd also throw in the suggestion to get a review by Kotaku, the gaming blog. They don't review every game that comes out ever, but they usually review very strong (or very anticipated, but turns out to be poor like James Cameron's Avatar tie-ins) games. I've already sent an email and a few comments to the site so maybe down the line they'll think about writing an article about it?

Of course, this all depends on how great a game Distant Worlds'll come out to be. But judging by the devs and Matrix Games themselves, it'll probably be a shoo-in for good stuff!

Sin's of a Solar Empire set the bar fairly high for 4x RTS games. However, it did leave me wanting a bit more strategic depth. I'm anxious to take this new contender for the crown out for a spin.

Sins is not a 4X game. It has some lite 4X elements, but that's about it.

By most major gaming sites it is actually classified as a form of 4X game, even though it's not as deep as others.

According to the Sins web site.

"Sins of a Solar Empire is a "RT4X" game, blending the epic strategy and empire management of the 4x genre with the fast-paced and tactical elements of a real-time strategy title."

So I agree Sins isn't 4x. It's a faster game than 4x but slower than a typical RTS. The only other games like Sins I think are Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander 1.

I'm playing TA again at the mo! So much fun. Can't find any of the old unit packs they used to have online though, everything is closed down now.

Whoops, sorry this is off topic [8|]

Nowhere in any of the major definitions of the 4X genre that I have seen does it say it is necessary to be paced at a certain level for a game to be considered 4X, thus I consider your point moot.[:'(]

Oh well, pointless bickering about this since it's one of those things there will always be disagreements over, so let's just drop it.

Many take their game styles preferences on a personal level. If it has exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination then it can be called a 4X (or 4Ex) game...it should be.
