Hi Adam,

thanks for the list of scenarios! It's strange that there is no Tarawa because when I'm on the HPS website I found the following:

http://www.hpssims.com/pages/products/S ... udFew.html

"Scenarios include Wake Island, Tarawa, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and others..."

I thought it was odd too and guess what - you're right! The Tarawa action is in the 2 Betio scenarios!! [:)]

PS: And one of them is huge.

Betio, right! I missed that I was expecting "Tarawa" under the location column, I should have also checked "Betio". Looks like the Red Beach 2 is extra large scenario...if I read that correctly. Cool stuff, I think I will pick The Few and proud, thanks for your help Adam...I appreciate it!

Quote: Modern Wars: Volume I is a NEW game that is two games in one: Vietnam and the Middle East, covering conflicts in those regions between 1948 and 1985.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Jason Petho

You can read about it here...http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2377369&mpage=1&key=

Looks like as Jason P said Volume 2 will be scenarios that cover a lot of relatively unknown or hardly represently conflicts. Hope that helps.

I find the 2D Squad Battles have an atmosphere of their own and I really do like them. There is room for improvement but keep the same overall look.

Microprose! Conflict in Vietnam. (by the colors, I'd guess on a PC)

I've never been a great fan of HPS graphics. Even the ones you post above seem pretty archaic. Granted I also love games like War in the Pacific which don't have all the 3D bells and whistles either but something about HPS graphics just look really dull. It's a shame because HPS seems to work with a LOT of titles that I find interesting. Also wish they had digital DL.

That's why I only buy HPS games from NWS.
If only Digital Downlad is available, I would buy straight from them.

I love HPS games and graphics because they have that old style look and feel to them. HPS games are your wargamers wargames. I'd say they are more groggy than most anything Matrixgames puts out except TOAW series and WitP. The ai is good enough on smaller maps and the ai in the new ancient series is really a lot better than the older versions of HPS games. Punic Wars, Gallic Wars, Greek Wars and Alexander Wars are really quite good. I'll be anxious to find out how good the 1914 games ai is.

My point was this:

I don't require my games to look so good it makes you lactate uncontrollably, but some effort would be appreciated every once in awhile. After 15+ years of sequels using the same core game, I don't think it's asking too much to spice it up a little.

For some reason these threads remind me of a saying a friend used to say a couple of decades ago...

"Do you want good grammer? Or do you want good taste?"
"Lose" is the opposite of "win." "Loose" is the opposite of "tight."

Well having a little insight into HPS I do know its all about finance....its a trade off...new games or better graphics...the reason why HPS can make so many new titles is because it concentrates on new games rather than diverting funds to create new graphics which would mean far less releases.

I agree...the graphics need some work...the latest SB game comes in 3D which many want otherwise they wont buy the game...that shocks me as I think the 3D looks awful and the 2D is far better in the SB series. I would rather they concentrate on improving the 2D look rather than making 3D. The vehicle 2D counters could improve as could the weapons. The map could also do with a quick going over...I have been tempted to make a mod...I think if they made it more like the Lock n Load maps or the ATS game system maps it would make a massive difference.

I'm a big fan of HPS games as well and own a few Panzer Campaign and Squad Battles games as well all of the Ancient Warfare series.

I'd own a whole heap more as well if they would only just get some sort of direct download option working. C'mon guys, I keep hoping, but I've been hoping for about 18 months now and still nothing.

Cheers

3D sprite graphics for HPS games are bad.  Even Campaign Series is better.  I still prefer playing 2D for HPS sims.  But even 2D board games have prettier counters than HPS sims.  Sigh.
