I'm not sure how this is supposed to work...

I would like to keep my Teekan colony (a la derelict ship discovery) purely Teekan - but I'm not sure how to go about doing this.

It's impossible. Elliot needs to include this race feature Kayoz.

See if I'm understanding you correctly here Kayoz. You've discovered a derelict Teekan Colony ship
and have awakened them out of stasis. In their gratitude, they pledge allegiance to your Empire and
have given you command and control. You find a nice desert planet to colonize them on, but you just want
the planet to be Teeken only. Is this correct?

If so, just change the colonies population policy of 'Same Family' to 'Assimilate',
and 'All Other Races' to 'Do Not Accept'. That should keep the Colony totally Teeken.
Please correct me if I've misunderstood though! [:)]

Unless your race is in the same family as the Teekan (Rodents) in which case you'll need to set 'Same Family' to 'Do Not Accept' as well.

I do find the options a little confusing. For example, if you're looking at a planet and choose 'Do Not Accept' then that affects the races at all of your other planets (i.e., it prevents them from coming to this planet). But if you choose 'Exterminate' then that affects the race at this planet (i.e. it starts killing them off).

I had no real problem understanding how this works. This is all perfectly explained in the galactopedia [:)].

Bah, fine. [:D]

I guess the issue I had was that using the existing options to apply the policy I wanted wasn't intuitive. If you get a new planet with a race you'd like to keep confined to that planet, then you have to change the policy on all of your other planets. I guess the current way of doing things allows for the most versatility though (apart from needing the ability to have policies based on individual races).

To achieve this set the Population Policy for that colony to:
- Same Family: Do Not Accept
- All Other Races: Do Not Accept

"Same Family" means all *other* races in your race family (not including your own race)

Wow, thanks for that clarification Elliot. Didn't look at the 'Same Family' that way! [:)]

I like the idea of specific policies for specific races. I feel that the reaction to fighting the same race reaction is a tad strong, I doubt that Nationalism would no longer exist in the future...
Perhaps a change where some races are more racial orientated vs nationalist might be an idea. I would like to be able to invade a Human empire in my way if I like!

Minor complaint for an awesome update though!

But still, we can't decide precisely what policy should be used for specific race. It's not enough to just set this for 'Race family'.

New to the forum, but I do second this "more control on population", was the first thing I checked when I got the game. Indeed I started a game with the lava loving lizard and quicly ended up with a full collony of "dolphin", whith the major empire at my border being the dolphins too. Now I got Guizean in one of my colonies for a reason I do not now and I can not do anything. This is an ocean planet founded by the dolphins (sorry at work I do not remeber the names...) so I can not "clear off" the guizean without harming the dolphins, hurting half of my colonies (stong dolphin population) and most probably ending at war with by nice and friendly neighbour!!!

The idea that multicultural empire should be harder to protect against spies is a very good one too!!!

Last time I looked their racial feature target was to "share a meal with the aliens" with them on the other side of the plate.

That line still gives me the creeps.

I definetly need to play a game with Gizurrean hivemind at some point. Just for RPings sake.
