Armor Clash!

Post by Goblin »

Enemy PzIVJ's are engaging my infantry, and destroyed an SU-57! I engaged the murdering scum with an SU-57 and.... a captured PzIVH! Shots fly back and forth, but we prevail! There is at least two others lurking nearby, and enemy Grenadiers have been sighted! The battle is about to begin, I think....

What an Insult!!!

To lose a d@mned PzkwIV to a friggin' 57mm armed halftrack! The Gods Must be Mad!!! I KNOW I AM!!!

Well...another hit and run against some of Goblin's conscripts...the poor schmucks. And I decided to light up all of the d@mned hillsides with an "arty party"...I can only hope some of it landed on some of Goblin's stuff!

Another recon team killed, but my conscripts are getting hit pretty darn good by the bad guys (I am, of course, the good guys). Not much other action this turn, but a heck of alot of steel is falling from the sky, and only a small percentage is mine! :(

Some Minor Killings...

Post by Orzel Bialy »

but nothing to write home mother about....lol :D

After a lunch break...I came back to find that Goblin was still milling about in the center...but had also become more active along the flanks.
Two SU-57's bit the dust to the south...as they and some infantry were probing around a hill down there. The smoke popping everywhere tells me there are more units down that way...but no worries mate...I'll have people there to greet you in no time flat!

To the north a recon en force found some Soviet recon units sniffing about in the middle of the steppe...think I did some surpression there, not the kills I had hoped for.

Back in the center there was another captured PzKw IV spotted but then they both disappeared into the woods. I shall have to see if I can "find em" in the next couple turns.
I was glad to hear that there was some "heavy rain" falling in certain areas of the front. :) Hopefully my barrage did some damage to the troops that were close enough to burden some of it's blast effects.

Ok then, back to the Guy in the Furry Green suit.

My SU-57's died because they were stupid. They refused to return fire at enemy infantry, who simply shot until they were suppressed, then let a tank roll up and BOOM! Very irritating. They should have returned fire.

I put no less than SIX 57mm rounds into a StuGIV on the northern flank, and it is still functional! Might have been 7. Uh-oh. Pi$$ed it off.....

Orzel appears to be probing the flanks in strength. You know, because I am the newbie, and I will fall for that...;)

One Tough STuG!!!

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Try this on for size...9 hits and it kept on tickin'! Not immobilized, main weapon not out of order, no track damage of any kind...just plain ole TOUGH!

Anyway...Goblin seems to have fallen in love with SU-57's, for they are everywhere! The fact that they don't shoot back at well concealed infantry may be another matter...but they are dangerous for suppression with their high rates of fire.

Spotted a few more of his units moving about...but nothing in the way of a massive assault by either party seems to be under way. I did manage to rain down some more steel on the wooded area in the center sector...hoping to see a burning tank or APC icon appear...but nothing this time....Darn!

PS...if it's such a novice trick (the flanking move) why did my scouts find a larger force of yours units milling about? Hmmmm????? ;)

That large force milling about is to block silly flanking moves...

Anyways, I got one word that scares he!l out of me! TIGER!! Good Lord there is a Tiger IE not 200m from my troops! Teeth chattering, bladder emptying, bowels releasing TIGER!!

Armor in action!! Two Panzer IVJ's died this turn, but took a T34/85 with them! That StuG (a decoy made of solid steel, I am thinking) is behind a smoke screen, and I could not practice my marksmanship on it anymore. I lost a recon patrol to a very alert and deadly SS squad while I was trying to flank the StuG. Both enemy tanks died in the center. One had shot it out with an SU-57 on Orzel's turn, but sucked an 85mm round from a real tank this time.

I really didn't see how it was a bad turn, but mine was.... for the Germans! Two StuGIV's killed, although the second one took 8 rounds to get I believe. That's 18 total HITS to kill two! You also lost the JPz IV/70 from the center. A second was spotted, but since he left me alone, I left him alone! A murderous blast of MP44 fire from your SS Grenadiers in the south cut down SIX men is one burst!! OUCH, my poor Conscripts.

One Stroke away from F9ing This One...

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Arghhhh...two times last turn two of my tanks didn't have the movement factors that were originally highlighted...leaving them out to die. (just as I thought they would)

This turn it happened twice more!!!  I now have two more AFV's that will probably get pinched once they are uncovered...if they aren't spotted already.

I have seen things come up a hex or two short before...but these last ones have been between 2 to 3 hexes short...and those extra one or two hexes were the difference between being behind cover or out of LOS on three of my tank losses.

It is my own stupidity that I didn't stop trusting the movement zone after the first couple times...but I needed to move far quickly and I ignored my better judgement.

Oh well...have to see where it goes from here. No excuse for my situation other than bad execution when all is said and done. :(

_________________________PS_______________________
I don't know if it's just me, or has anyone else noticed that the PzKw IV's are not as tough as they were in 7.1? I mean I've lost two to 57mm hits that came from dead ahead! These puppies used to be T-34 killers...now they seem to be cannon fodder that explode fairly easily. Either that or I'm just having one bad day!!! ;)

It's not just you. They actually turned wimpy in 7.1, or so it seems to me. That is part of my complaint on pricing. They do not give performance to warrant the prices. Turn will follow...

AAAARRRGGGHH! Found a Tiger. PERFECT flanking shots! Two hits, both on the front of the turret, as it gunned down three of my AFV's. It lives.

Elsewhere, killed two PzIVJ's, and lost a T34/85 or two. I lost one to an SS Grenadier squad, two hexes, Panzerfaust 100 BOOM!! I KNEW THEY WERE THERE!!  Stupid. They live.

The 122mm rounds won't stop! Dear Lord make them stop!! Am I fighting Orzel, or Bel?!?

Early Losses Are Handcuffing Me....

Post by Orzel Bialy »

combine that with having to move "conversatively" with my remaining AFV's and it's not a rosey picture at all. :(

If only the visibility had been more than a lousy six hexes...;) then perhaps I might have been able to fend Goblin off a bit better...since this "close in" crapola has negated the armored values of everything with the exception of the valiant Tigers.

Let us see what the next turn brings.

Nothing to report this turn. Went toe to toe using an SU-57 against a JPz IV tank destroyer. Bonked a round off him, both of us live. I am out in the open, so I doubt that will last.

I think increased sighting would help me more than you. It is hard to locate you with this short sight range, and therefore hard to concentrate my force where it could do alot of damage.

The Tiger yet lives. He ran, but he will be back, with friends, I am sure...

Getting Frustrated...

Post by Orzel Bialy »

A SU-57 sits infront of me...alright dead meat!!! :) I've got three shots to make him pay for getting caught in the open...but my long 75 should only need one or maybe two at this range.

Away goes the first round.....bang....swish....DINK!?!?! It bounces off on a tin-armored halftrack at 150 yards?!?! That's ok though...I should be able to get another crack at him...so I await the return fire.
Bang....DONG!!! It hits me...doesn't penetrate though thankfully! So I line up for my next shot and "WHAT?!?!?" My two remaining shots have fell to zero!!! I jump up from the chair...the room is filled with swear words, bouncing off the walls like my AP rounds do off cardboard thin Russian armor...I even want to take pillows and throw them at the monitor (something usually reserved for those rare times when the GreenBay Packers lose to the Chicago Bears...:) )

So withdraw I must...otherwise I will have another dead AFV. :( What was a promising battle has begun to go south on me quick.
Half my force is beyond my control this last turn...no rallying attempts even available...they are just heading back to Germany on their own.
"Come Back here you sons of @&$!#* and fight and die like real $@!%*&# men, you #@%*& chicken #%&$*!!!" :p

Oh well...let's turn it over to Goblin...I'm banking that his Super Teflon SU-57's will punch their way all the way to Berlin this turn! :D

Nothing that turn. A conscript unit shot up a vehicle crew, and a T34/85 retreated an infantry squad that was peekin'. I do not see that Tiger, and that is FINE BY ME!!!

Stopped the Mass Exodus....

Post by Orzel Bialy »

for the time being...
Christ Almighty...the last time I saw that much of a paniced retreat was on the playground of my school when I was 9 years old and a fat, ugly girl was running around trying to kiss us guys! :p

Anyway...now that I have to try and re-set a less than desireable battleline, somewhat forced on me by the cowardice of many of my units, this should get really interesting.

No real action to speak of...all of the T-34/85's that I had spotted have vanished **poof** into the thick of the night. I'm sure they will re-emerge shortly in one of the many holes I have in my semi-chaotic front.

Thanks to you Goblin I have been "forced" to drink Sam Adams this morning instead of orange juice...at least that's what I'll tell the wife if she finds me drinking beer at 9:30 am on a Sunday morning! :D

Lol! Forced, eh? Anyways, you are correct about the T34's, you will see them again. Here kitty, kitty, kitty.....

I shot up a grenadier unit who was attempting to shoot unarmed crew members. My 120mm mortars are now working overtime! My 82mm mortars decided to answer their radios this turn for some smoke cover. Nice of them. I may send them to the front!
