So is this tournament being run by Matrix? Is there a tournament site hosted somewhere?

Who is keeping track of the ladder?

http://www.ww2wargamesclubforgentlemen.com/ Has SC3 listed as a ladder game. They will keep stats for members of that wargaming club who are members. They also have a facebook page but you need to join at the main site. Follow the directions to join exactly as described and it goes without a hitch.

My apologies if posting that link is not allowed.

What tournament? I'd love to play in a tournament!

Find someone to tango and start a game. We'll build up the pyramid has we go.

I haven't seen a fourth German HQ and with Lv34Mika talk of crazy scheme there is a possibility that the pricey unit he saved up for at the beginning of the game is a German Carrier. Buying it before the completion of Plan Z allows Germany to eventually go over the maximum and have two when Plan Z is completed in Jan 1942. [;)]

Costy times on both sides...

14 Oct 1940, the battle of Britain starts

Germany bombards to bits the newly reconstituted BEF in Dover. Luftwaffe and RAF pilots suffer high casualty rates, which airforce will blink first?

German subs screening the English channel... Looks like Sealion is a go, waiting for good weather. German capital ships based in the low countries snipped a destroyer.

Lv34Mika using the tried and true strategy of spacing his turns so much that I forget want I intended to buy next. [:'(]

November 1940

nothing happens... the DAK is on its way to north africa but the channel between France and GB is quiet. The German generals are discussing a relocation of the Luftwaffe to capture Malta. Still no decision made. Other opinions say the Luftwaffe should stay and wait for better weather. Maybe there will be an opportunity to launch Operation Seeloewe and even if not there might be the chance to sink the Royal Navy where the people of southern England can see it.

Joachim von Ribbentrop is still in Spain trying to convince Franco to join the war. If the succeeds before summer 1941 that might be a turning point after the late defeat of France.

@KorutZelva

got it... I'll try to make my turns a bit faster.
Always depends on work, wife and son. That are the three things that keep me away from tennis, golf and gaming. But what should I say? I made my choice. But I'll try to speed it up as good as possible.

Skirmish between a German destroyer vs elite str 12 UK sub off the coast of Denmark.

The sub gets the best of the exchange 6 to 2.

German raiding of UK convoy have started again on a small scale. Scouting reveals a German bomber still in northern France...

Iraq hasn't fired despite the Italian incursion in Egypt, I guess patch 1.11 requires German units presence to trigger?

German tech spending lags the UK's, as German factories are busy churning out units. Italy hasn't bought one tech chit so far...

Takeaways:

The Good:

Advanced aircraft and Ground attack at 1 will make it hard to Sealion if he goes for it now, especially for the latter since only the medium bomber would be able to deliver de-entrenching by air.

The Bad:

Tech level 2 in infantry and 1 in long range aircraft is bad news for everybody. His subs just retreated to port, seeing that they are still lvl 0, it's probably to upgrade.

The Ugly:

If Germany wants the island, it could probably get it. But I believe I'm well positioned to make it prohibitively expensive.

The good:

DAK arrived the the Luftwaffe is in best condition and ready to strike if necessary. Several units are ready to get over the channel if there is a chance.

The bad:
it just took too long to defeat France. Maybe going for GB units as primary target was not worth the delay.

The ugly:
Sea lion is always possible but it will be a bloody fight.

The next few turns will show who is gonna be the basement of our tourney pyramid. I wouldn't bet too much on myself at the moment.

I wouldn't make any claims for the basement slot.
Or rather, there might be some sub basement levels as well.

Jan 20 1941

German cruiser (geisenau?) antsy about the prospect of being targeted by UK subs in Cherbourg port, tries to relocate to the French port on the western coast but bumps into a UK destroyer lying in wait. It can't retreat into port in time before it gets swarmed by UK's BBs and CAs. It gets sent to the bottom but fights a good fight before going under.

Feb-March 1941

Furious at the lost of their cruiser, the kriegsmarine unleash its wolfpacks on the wounded Nelson battleship and sinks it. The UK, seeing the german subs far from their hideout around Le Havre, snif to find a prize of their own to continue the vendetta...

An Army sinks to the bottom.

Iraq coups and Yugo counter coup. UK seize Basra in retaliation but the Axis doesn't seem as prepared to deal Yugo's treachery, and Yugoslavian troop march into an empty Trieste. To the north, Belgrade does not seem in immediate danger...

April-May 1941

Sealion is a go. The BEF is bombed to death for the third time. Royal Air force loses a fighter unit. Kriegsmarine and Royal navy square off and casualties are high. London holds for now.

Regia Marina is tilted and bombs port Said to smithereen trying to get to a wounded destroyer but suffer substancial damage to its capital ships. French Spanish engineers have been hard at work in Egypt. Front line troops barely dented by Italian assault on the perimeter defense.

Well... what should I say
I'm unbelievable stupid as it seems. IIRC the corps that forced Hungary to surrender was south of the slovakian corps. Without full supply I was thinking that they can't reach Budapest. I was 100% sure. A 3 supply unit that walks 5 hexes without mobility 1 technology. I still don't understand how that could be possible. But maybe I

Well... always positive: I learned something

Of course that is a desaster.

Great Attitude. Thats what it all about improve your game and move on.

One of wargamings basic rules is to keep troops in Capitals/Victory Cities. You'll know that next time.

enjoy

Lv34Mika conceded but at least he earned enough exp to level up to level 35. [:)]

I think with the French holding into September, my foe panicked and threw everything to get Paris. He damaged precious units that were intended for use in Sealion. If he was gung-ho into committing to Sealion, he should have bit the 'delayed French surrender' bullet and spared the units that were to take part in the operation. The troops that were going to stay on the continent were more than enough to take Paris a turn or two later.

Some sealion proponent also advise going for France in 1939 to have more room on the sealion timetable. By waiting for clear weather, he minimized his initial losses going into the low country but I think he also hindered his long term Sealion prospects.

a few thoughts from my side

Poland was ok... my first mistake (I did it in SC2 many times) was that I did not move my troops to the west with the "operate" option. They travelled all the way the conventional way. That way I started my invasion of BeNeLux by far too late.

That gave KorutZelva enough time to prepare. He built a second heavy tank and reinforced the B.E.F. with two anti-air units. I decided to kill the UK troops first to put some pressure on GB fearing a possible sealion. I destroyed some units but was not brave enough to try it. At this time GB was not well protected. I'm 100% sure about that. Instead of using my three paratroopers to surprise Mr Churchill in southern England and defeat France a few turns later I used my paratroopers in France. Stupid decision. He would have rushed his troops back to GB to help defending the island and France would have been on its own anyway.

But it took me too long anyway. Mostly because I started my invasion of BeNeLux and France too late. The approach to Paris was also not really perfect. I hoped to catch up time. The result was the one or other German unit lost.

It was my very first pbem game as Axis. By far much more difference to SC2 than I thought but it is a great game and I had a wonderful opponent. I'll gain experience with every game and I swear I will not stay at the bottom of our ladder forever. I just hope a few more players start playing "ranked games". I still hope there is someone with enough spare time and the knowledge to find a way to track our results online.

KorutZelva - [&o]
I hope that was not our last game and I will get the chance to have revenge. ;)
