Looks like a heck of a sale! Any recommendations for other games.....while we wait for PBEM turns to come back?

I'm also a big fan of Distant Worlds: Universe, Idaho. If you're a fan of space games or 4x games give it a look. It's also on sale for $15. [8D]

Edit, here a review of the WW1 game "To End All Wars" I would like to try it, as I found the American Civil War games quite good already:

https://www.gamewatcher.com/reviews/age ... eview/8682#

....[8D]

I read that. I found this bit highly amusing:
Unfortunately turns can take a hell of a long time to resolve, which can make the medium to latter stages of the game a frustratingly slow experience. It's not uncommon to have to wait a minute or two for each turn resolution.

The entitlement generation is so impatient.

That's actually pretty hilarious! [:D]

THIS is the best part of the review, while reading it I thought what 10 minutes or what? Then he says 1-2 minutes [X(] I need to continue my game in AGEODs Civil War2 which I bought half a year ago in a sale from another site. I mean this is somewhat smaller in scale then the whole Europe in WW1 but the waiting times there are ok.Also the AI is (with limits) among the better ones in strategy games. Sometimes it can surprise you and doing ok supplying and massing it´s troops. Annoyingly does a lot of raiding which is mostly cav being not esay to catch or contain.

It crahsed twice for me, but there was a fix found on the forum. However after so long time such a fix should be in a patch. That fix makes it run stable like SPWAW and WITPAE. Because I read from crashes in the Napoleon and WW1 game. One can hope that also an easy fix or patch exists making these also run stable like ACW2.

Well I have not the fastest PC (most parts being from 2010 or so) but it is good enough to run such "older" games better perhaps then brandnew PCs when it may go TOO FAST or does not run at all... even SPWAW (with the enhanced update that has a Win7 fix) runs fine on my PC.

And btw. there are a bunch of good games on sale quite cheaply...

Price in this case is not a problem (with some games costing only ca. 10€!) but time playing these games, with 1 PBM and 1 AI of AE I can barely manage.

Distant Worlds has been on my hard drive for a while - I'm a fan, just haven't played it recently. That's the problem, I do own a good bit of Matrix titles....and usually focus most of my gaming time to my WiTP PBEM.

But I'm still looking for another title to get! Perhaps I'll look at some older titles I passed by - Scourge of War Waterloo has an appeal. So does Grigsby's Eagle Day Bombing the Reich, which I've thought about getting every Holiday sale. And last, Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm is another one I've thought about, but never pulled the trigger on. Decisions....decisions....

Guess which game that we all know and love is on sale for $16.00? [X(]

Yep, 80% off sale for AE. [&o][&o][&o]

For potential Australian purchasers, the price is $AUD 26.20 (subject to currency movement).

The problem isn't money, it's time. I have a lot of Matrix titles but there's only so much time in a day. Anyway, great to see some realistic prices for some of the oldies but goodies.

With war in the Pacific ae, the smaller scenarios are reasonable for a new player?

Yes,

Additional scenarios have been added over the years as well.

Please tell me this works with Windows 10 without a lot of song and dance.

Microsoft ran W10 down my throat and WitP augured in like a Zero hit by six .50 cal.

Never could make it work.

Can I get back into WitP?

I don't know about WITP.

I know that WITP-AE works with windows 10 if your computer meets the min. specs.

But to install WITP-AE there is some song and quite a bit of dance involved.

Taxcutter-I'm no computer whiz. I dislike fiddling with install lines and don't bother with a number of the unofficial betas or post-market unofficial add-ons (e.g., Tracker). I'm no luddite, but I don't find 'joy' in monkeying with computer settings like many others do.

But if *I* can figure out how to get it to run on Windows 10 (which I had to do a couple years ago), you can too.

Follow the guidelines on the Tech Issues WiTP:AE subforum for best configuration results. Particularly relevant for you would be 'switches' and Win10 compatibility threads. There are many that may address your questions. And forumites with a ken for fiddly bits like this are usually quite helpful in troubleshooting your efforts too.

Good luck! And welcome aboard. [8D]

WITP was not designed to work with switches that make it possible for the game to work with Win 10. WITP-AE is designed to use these switches.
I was also in the boat of having Win 10 forced on me after a hard drive crash, and I dreaded tackling all the issues that had been identified with running the game under Win 10.
But I had been reading the threads in the tech section and was able to quickly find what to do an was running the game smoothly within a few hours of the install and patch to beta. No need to dread - the problems have all occurred on other users and the answers have been found and posted in the tech section. [:)]

Yep,

I got a new computer with Windows 10 already installed.
So I had to build from the ground up.

I was fortunate in that I already knew about the upgrades and switches and how to apply them.
I knew I would just have to get the right combination.

It looks like with the sale price a lot of new players may come in.

They are use to installing a game and having it run right out of the box.
They may not know how to build from the ground up.

I guess you are going to have to stand by for them and clam them down.

Thanks for the info on WITP.
