Cap & Gown explains how to set up when you are expecting a strike but if you are set to not react and it does react then its the same thing as getting caught with your pants down. And I believe that's happened to all of us. See my explanation on my next turn Nasrullah.

The funny thing about this strike was that the target was 3 hexes away with clear weather.

Units had high morale, as it was the first airstrike of the game for those air wings.

Explains why so many bombers were coordinated into one strike.

But if it was good enough to coordinate that many bombers, surely some of those fighters could find a formation of 174 bombers on a clear day, or at lease not all get seprated.

Yea, $hit hapens, but given the clear weather, I have my doubts as to the liklihood of such an outcome.

At least some of the fighters should have been able to keep up with that many bombers - even if some got lost.

And from what others have posted it does not seem like all that much of a rarity.:)

Was about to ask if he was using LRCAP and his CV's reacted out from under it. Costal Hex eh? Just another reason to stay away from the Coral Sea :(

Was Japan's CV's even spotted? Seems like the USA CV's flew attacks, but not against the CVs which would somewhat indicate that they were not running any naval search.

I've lost all my carriers before so I know how your opponent feels. He's got a long road to go, not sure a win is possible for him now but you can always make a mistake.

Since I own Lunga, GG and PM, he sure has a long road to go :D - but also sure as hell I will make mistakes, too :( .

I don't think my vict... err my opponent has neglected naval search. It's not our first match against each other and he is quite good. He playing the Japanese has beaten me once by taking Luganville in an unexpectedly strong shock assault in late 1942, destroying all my planes there - virtually all fighter squadrons I did have on the map at this stage, including the Aussies and the USN fighters from my six sunk/damaged carriers. Bad Hair Day for the Allies again...
