Bismarck at wargamer says:

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

I have a 1.5 MHZ P4 processor on my desktop. Total 'think' time each turn seems to about 30 - 45 seconds. The turn execution phase where you see the units moving on the strategic map can take anywhere between 1 and 10 minutes depending on how much is going on. The battles can take longer when you use hex war but that is your choice and only when you are involved. (you can choose to fight a quick battle if you want which goes much quicker) The computer controlled battles happen almost instantly. The game actually moves pretty quickly especially compared to WITP (I play that on my laptop so the turns can be finished in less than 20 minutes).

If, again "IF", that was the real Jim Cobb posting those comments

It clearly is the real one. Who else would it be?

Trying to start a flame war?

What I explicitly said was:

"OK, so you don't mind using 10 minutes to collapse or expand units to make a move? You must love Grigsby games.

BTW, the sentence about mechanics didn't necessarily speak to CoG. "

The context was in answer to a guy who said he didn't need to know about interface and mechanics in a review.

Thanks, the horse's mouth speaks.

I couldn't get the context through the thread, but I was almost sure that you weren't saying that.

Moving a single unit in CoG is easy. Is that clear enough for you guys?

I admit the context got confused. I'm involved in a discussion about what should go into a review so, when a guy said he didn't care about interface, etc, I tryed to bring him out. Unfortunately, it happened on the CoG thread.

I'm reviewing it for Combatsim.com and am digging into it. Very deep game; you're not going to just sit down and start clicking. It compares well SO FAR with the Paradox gaames and that's a plus in my book.

Thanks for the clarification[;)] I am sure noone intended anything other than to receive clarification from such a well respected member of the wargaming community.

No,I was dumbfounded that a reviewer would post this type of confused nonsense about a game just due out the next day.

That is a big statement and one that has me even more excited.

I love Paradox games and my thought when viewing the screenshots were that it looked similar in some respects.. add in the fact that you can control the battles and I'm very exited! Up to 66% downloaded.. and then I'll start to find out for myself! [:D]

Ambiguous indeed...but i am glad i gave Mr. Cobb the benefit of the doubt[;)]. COG is truly a marvel, i have spent 150+ hours with it so i feel qualified in making that statement[:'(], and it does feel similar in scope to the Paradox titles but the "hexwar" is another whole game in addition...groundbreaking.
