Armed Forces @ Alor Star are looking ok so they'll be doing another D. Atk. I split my Divisions up for this attack. When I split my divisions up the Disruption, which varried from the teens to mid-30s depending on the division, was reset to 0 - is this right or is it a bug?[&:]
I've got forces heading from Singora south to Kota Bhora - I need to get my assault on - know what I mean?[:D]
I've got another Engr Rgt heading to Alor Star from Singora and 2 Const units heading to Singora from Ban Don (I'll use the Const units as occupation forces).
Singora Base has the AF=4 - 200 aircraft. I've been a little over that as we agreed to moderate stacking but I don't see the same number of sorties I'm used to. I've reduced my # of aircraft to slightly below 200 to see if the sorties start to increase.
ENG 122nd BF is @ 27,40 and marching to Ban Don to provide more air support.
ENG 48th Const Bn is heading to Victoria Point as an occupational force to free up INF 21st Mixed Bde.
ENG 22nd Aviation Unit @ Saigon is traveling by sea to Singora - more for support to the units attacking Khota Bharu for the start but will supply air support for Khota Bharu one I take the base.
ENG 124th IFA BF is heading up to Bangkok from Phom Penh so I can add more air support.
ENG 118th IJNAF BF @ Saigon is marching up to Tavoy so I have air support for operations up in that neck of the woods.
I'm adding ASW ships from Camranh Bay to the Saigon hex as there are 4 freaking enemy subs in there. I can see them, actually attacked them by air last turn, but I'd sure like to either drive them away or sink them...
I see a TF of 8 ships @ Singapore - 2CA and a BB identified - plus a TF of 4 ships south of Singkep and another TF north of Sigawang. I'm guessing Darren is up to something so I've got 2 KB TFs heading to the western part of the China Sea to see if I can pick off a ship or two. If nothing else, I at least keep him honest[:D]
I formed a CS TF to run suplies/oil between Miri and Saigon
Over by Formosa I have a couple of his subs bracketed by ASW TFs - I'm going to actively start huning his subs...
I'm continuing to D. Atk @ Hong Kong as I received a fairly decent 1:1 and dropped his fort down a notch.
Ground combat at Hong Kong
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 58575 troops, 528 guns, 44 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 1077
Defending force 14609 troops, 92 guns, 4 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 229
Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 4
Japanese max assault: 1174 - adjusted assault: 1031
Allied max defense: 169 - adjusted defense: 706
Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 4)
Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 4
Japanese ground losses:
339 casualties reported
Guns lost 13
Allied ground losses:
148 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
I'm moving some of my DBs to coastal bases to patrol for subs... Do you get the idea that I'm gunna try to put a crimp on his sub fleet?[:D] Taking down some of my merchies sucks, but the intel he gets from them is another strong reason for me to go after his subs.
Troops @ Tuguegarao, PI are conducting a D. Atk to liberate the base from the allied yankee devils.
I also set up a transport CS between Truk and Rabaul

My instincts near Singapore were correct! Darren has a nice looking TF full of new toyz that looks like it was heading for Singora to do some target practice. Planes from one of my carrier groups, TF8, caught up with them @ long range and chipped paint with 250lbs bombs. 60 miles closer and I'd have had some Torps on those Kates!

Darren is going to make me fight for everything @ PI and Malaya - no falling back to 1 or two bases for him. Actually this is kind of cool and probably more realistic - considering the forces he has in this mod.
From the Intel screen you can see the power of AAA in this mod. In A2A I'm enjoying a 3:1 ratio right now but 3/4 of my total aircraft losses are from Flak - wow![X(]
So I'm still slogging in Malaya & PI, I'm going after the bases I want for a paremeter against the Americans, I'm building an assault force @ Yangku for my China campaign, plus I'm working on Borneo for supplies.
I'll drop a few pics of the day in the following posts.

I have asked my opponent 1EyedJacks if it was ok to start posting in this AAR to keep it going.
We have no house rules other then my request to play an opponent that prefers the "historical" style game, played in a sensible manner. Which is odd considering this scenario is very non historical.
Essentially the scenario is a modified CHS.
Need to go, but I will post in a update format as opposed to the combat report style.

RE: Iron Storm II - According to 1EyedJacks
So here we are in early February. I started out very slow and very cautious - maybe too slow. I also chose to go with the standard Dec 7th opening turn as I wanted to see the game from the perspective of Alicki - the guy who put out this module. Japanese troops are scattered all over this killer map by AB. It took me a while just to get the troops to where I wanted them for my initial theatres of operations.
Right now I've got Malaya pretty much in the bag, the Philippines is pretty much wrapped up, and I've taken about half of Borneo. I really need to get into Java but Malaya is kind of holding me up.
Here's the History on this module - just in case you might B interested. I really got into reading the background on this and just had to play it. I got pretty lucky in finding Darren looking for someone to play this with. http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~tgh4635/manual/
Currently I'm gearing up for the start of operations in China and I'm trying to keep hitting Darren here or there to keep him on his toes. I hope to begin doing some serious raiding of his supplie lines in March.
This is a joint AAR so I plan to keep things fairly vague until the stuff hits the fan. Darren is my 2nd PBEM opponent. He might not realize it but I've learned a lot about utilizing the different weapons @ my disposal by playing him - and he's been pretty good about giving me basic pointers and things to watch out for.

Hey Michael,
Next time I get the opportunity to take Amboina I think I'll have ART, ARM, lotsa INF, some freakin' engineers, and the KB for air support...[:D][:D][:D]
What makes the Boise so tough - armor rating or a killer crew?

Holy mother of Voot! The RO-61 had a perfect shot on the Prince and Blew it. They missed and took a beating anyways. The crew is very unhappy with their Captain. The XO is thinking about sending the Captain out through a tube - a body floating on the surface with some oil and rags ought to make the escorts think they've done their job and go away.

Hey Darren - do you see my KB yet? [;)]
I converted all of my DB Marys to LB Lilys because I can.[:)] Army DBs seem to suck in this game but perhaps I'm not using them right? I've been placing them on coastal bases with ASW orders but they don't seem to do squat. And when I use them on a base the flack turns 'em into swiss cheese. Heck, even the Sonias - the only DBs I have right now with armor - get spanked when I go after shipping or ground units. I just wish I could convert to LBs with the Ida and Sonia air groups...
A lot of my LCUs seem stuck - Darren, have you gone through movement problems with LCUs where they only move a few miles each day and if so, any recommendations? I've already tried stopping them for a turn and then reissuing them their marching orders...
I expect another base to fall to Japanese troops in Malaya (it helpsthat you don't have troops there[:D][:D]).
I still can't believe that sub of mine... I snuck it down there in hopes of tapping into a carrier. I can't complain on going after the Prince instead but to freaking miss? Not enough aggressiveness I guess... I've seen some of my subs shoot 2-3 Torps plus surface to put in a few rounds - lol. Wouldn't that be somethin'? Have the RO-61 surface to trade shots w/the Prince?[:D][:D][:D]

The Boise and all those Brooklyn Class CL's have a high armor rating (better than all the Jap CL's and is able to stand up to some of the older CA's quite well). [:D] Remember, in our first PBEM, I sent them with some of the Aussie ships to Rabaul and they did very well against your 3 or 4 CA's (back to Home Island for extended yard period). [:-] You don't want to take them on without a CA or two in your TF's.

RE: Iron Storm II - According to 1EyedJacks
Going back a bit
Situation in Malaya at begining of January
The initial air attacks on Alor Star devested the air units. Four squadrons of Hurricanes start their with a strength of over 60 aircraft. Day one attacks had over half damaged and the units moral low. At no time did I ever fly more then about 20 aircraft, it was a battle I could not win.
By January Alor Star had fallen, my ground troops had retreated to Georgetown and the aircraft to Singapore. Georgetown was a level 5 fort with over 500av of troops. My plan was to hold as long as I could with the next defence line being Kuala Lumpur, another level 5 fort.
Singapore was busily digging in, slowly building to a level 9 fort. With the river and a expected 1200 to 1500av in troops I expect to hold Singapore for a long time.
The carriers in Singapore were retreated to India, the BB’s kept to make a fight. I sailed once only to watch the Japanese convoys sail away the same turn. Deciding to do something rather then wait I went for a bombardment mission of Singora only to meet long range bombers from mini KB. With my pride damaged I returned to Singapore.
I have spent most of the game slowly shipping oil and resources into Singapore from the DEI.

Situation in Philippines beginning of January
1Eyejacks initial landings were fairly standard. Northern bases and Naga. Most of my aircraft were destroyed at Clark. Survivors have been flown to China or went to Manila. At this stage, except for some cats I had 72 P40’s based in Manila, were I intended to make my stand with a delaying action at Clark.

Other action during January
China
Quiet, mainly moving troops forward to weaker bases. The aircraft moved to China have been rested and refitted. I have two bomber squadrons and about 5 fighter squadrons. I suspect more then I can use. I have noticed in a previous game that use of aircraft eats supply like nothing else. Until I start flying supplies over the hump I will be limiting my attacks to minor spoiling actions.
Rabaul
1Eyejack attacked early and I decided to make a surprise attack. I sent some NZ and Australian warships, led by some of the new BC’s and found out why BC’s can not defeat BB’s. I knew he had a BB in the area but did not expect to meet the main Japanese SAG. I alos expected to perform better then I did. See the NZ BC I lost below. I also lost an Australian cruiser.
Palau
The Japanese advance has been fairly slow. This has resulted in concentrated forces with little opportunity to attack stragglers. I decided to launch a bombardment of Palau with the Dutch navy, and some support from US DD’s in the area.. While there is some fuel at major bases the CHS map means no fuel at small bases.
I set up a fuelling depot and recon base west of Palau and sent in the force of 2 Dutch BC’s and assorted DD escorts. Due to my mining efforts with subs there just happened to be an ASW Jap force of about 4 DD’s. Despite being outnumbered two to one in numbers, let alone in tonnage the valiant Jap ASW squadron not only held off my Bombardment TF but managed to put a torp into a Dutch BC.
Knowing the problem was I was set to bombardment I foolishly sent the DD’s in the next night set to Surface Action hoping to catch the ASW squadron. After a small skirmish my fleeing DD’s ran out of fuel only to be caught slowly steaming away from Palau by mini KB on its way to support operations at Amboina. I lost several DD’s and the Dutch AO’s in the area.

I have started upgrading Chinese aircraft. It will be a slow process as while I have spare bombers I have no spare fighters in the pool.

Is this in the normal game? Certainly a fun new toy.

It isn't. Alikchi stuck it in because the USN has a bigger risk of losing more carriers in IS2... Not that the Ranger is really worth that much, given how lightly armed and armoured, and not to mention S-L-O-W she is... But yeah, it's a fun little toy...

I noticed mini KB near Amboina, lots of pounding going on. I guess you have noticed the Brit CV's have come out to play.
DB's attack from 2000 feet so suffer major flack problems. Best use is ASW and attacking shipping (non major battle fleets). They will be more acurate then level bombers for NAval and ASW action.
I noticed your advances are slow, no idea why. Watch fatigue and disruption. Beyond that check for advice in the forums.
Just for the record Amboina is out of supply except for what is with the units, and that is less then required. Your bombing soaked up 1000 supply in a couple of days.
Units draw supply to repaid the base they are in (cant be stoped). To repair their damage and for combat.
