Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #7 (continued).

[ax] Land Combat. Japan. +1.6 A vs Chaing HQ-I.
(1) Fractional=869, no.
(2) 2D10=8, result=9.
(3) Land combat is a complete failure.
(4) Japan loses 2 units (inf div and 18th inf corps).

[al] phew

[ax] Next up is the +1 MAN land combat which is now cancelled because it's out of supply. Didn't think about that. [:@]

[al] because of ZOC?

[ax] Yes. The loss of the IJA inf army caused supply to be cut.

[al] and a hole in the line?

[al] ah ok i understand

[al] The suicidemissions of the Machurians is aborted

[ax] Live and learn. I should have thought through the order of the land combats a bit more.

Japan. Land Combat, Southern China.

(3) Attack succeeds but Japan loses 2 units (MAN Terr & 5-5 mot)
(4) Peking is recaptured.

(6) US Entry Action: Japan occupies a Chinese city (Peking). D10=4, no US entry chit added.

[al] Fickle warlords

[ax] costly fighting at least for Japan

[al] Japan is looking quite weak at the moment in the land war

[ax] Well, they'll just have to correct that moving forward at the expense of the navy

[al] Yeah

[ax] But this war for Japan is a land war and a war for the army. The navy will just have to take second fiddle much to Adm Yamamoto's dislike.

[ax] Air rebase. Japan. none.

Japan. Land Combat, Peking, China.

Turn 5. May/June 1940. Axis #1 (continued).

[ax] Sub Combat. Bay of Biscay (storms).
(1) 2 Italian sub groups (1 & 2-boxes).
(2) Only sub group in 2-box has a chance (10%) of finding during storms.
(3) Sub group 5046 (2-box) initiates and Italy commits her subs.
(4) No air reactions possible.
(5) Search. Italy=4, RN=2, only the RN finds.

[ax] If you select 1-box, you'll get 4 SPs, which you can use to avoid or to increase RM risk from no effect to D. Or if you select 2-box you get 3 SPs, which can be used to increase RM from no effect to 2A (if you also included the 1-box) or 1 A (if you didn't).

[ax] How do you wish to proceed?

[ax] DISCLAIMER: The above is based on my calculations looking at the naval combat table. You may wish to verify for yourself before making any decision. [8D]

[al] I hope your calculations are good. I will select the 1-box and avoid combat

[ax] 4 SPs, as calculated. RN avoids combat.
