I never saw the screen version and was told it was a brilliant series. Someone at work recommended the book so I thought I would give it a go.

actually the book is better than the TV series - a lot darker and less played for knowing laughs

During my train rides into the City, I've taken to reading Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail '72.

Anyone read the Gunner Asch books? Or any books by Hans Hellmut Kirst?

I have very fond memories of reading his books during my teenage years.

I kind of guessed that it was some sort of F1 magazine. Or book? It is just that I have no idea what happened in the F1 that year. My interest in F1 ended 11 September 1978. Your enthusiasm has, however, slightly increased my attention for current F1 events.

There have always been, and will always be, freak results in sport. Piquet winning his third World Championship, by definition, should not be considered a freak result. Then you look at the individual races and remind yourself just how BAD he was that year. In the best car he didn't actually win a race (he crossed the line first three times - all courtesy of others hitting trouble). Remember in F1 if you are half a second slower than your teammate you are toast. Well Nigel out-qualified him, sometimes by almost 2 seconds!!! He was so bad he was rated 5th best driver that season.... Any why did he win the title? Because his car didn't breakdown, while poor Nigel's did...frequently....while in the lead....[:@]

Finland's War of Choice: The Troubled German-Finnish Coalition in World War II by by Henrik O. Lunde.

Just begun but it seems promising so far.

The Constitutional Reader from Hillsdale College. I'm taking their Constitution course 101 for free. I think you can still sign up if interested. It's the same course their students are required to take their first semester.
That's a great College. [:)]

There's another recent book in English about the Finnish WW II effort: Hitler's Nordic Ally?, Finland and the Total War 1939-1945, by Danish historian and bookwriter Claes Johansen. Recommended reading, if the subject matter is of interest.

Meanwhile, I just finished reading Frieser's The Blitzkrieg Legend, which I purchased to accomppany the Multi-Man Publishing's boardgame of the same name. Recommended reading as well.

Thank you.

I have another book, about the Soviet '44 offensive in Karelia, in queue for reading. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be available in English.

But I will keep your recommendation in mind for next time I shop for books. [:)]

Orm, I have not tried MMPs The Blitzkrieg Legend yet, how is it? I have been seriously looking at buying the reprint of Guderians Blitzkrieg, but the fear of the wife unleashing her own blitzkrieg on me if I do has stayed my hand for the time being. [:D]

I have but tinkered yet with The Blitzkrieg Legend, but if the topic (and OCS games) interests you at all it is a must buy. Quite tough on Germans, who are only coming to grips with Blitzkrieg, against quality Allied forces who are cumbersome to move around.

It was Crossroads who recommended The Blitzkrieg Legend. I see that he has already answered. [:)]
