. . . and we’re getting tired of hearing about how much fun Larry is having playing our game.
(Sorry Larry, just had to mention your playtesting fun)
I was posting updates because you guys deserved to read SOMETHING but at least two people now
have expressed how it's rubbing people the wrong way, like I'm teasing a dog with a bone. It's
irratating now. My appologies. I will cease and desist if that's the problem I'm causing.

Not (never) a problem.

Someday I’ll have to pick you up and take you to Chicago for a “real” winter!

Honestly, if Larry didn't provide the tidbits he is allowed under the NDA, I would have written this game off long ago as Matrix games second ultimate vaporware project after Battlefields. It's obvious they are making progress, but there has to be a fair amount of work left to do or they would start doing Dev diary's and the such.

I agree. If it weren't for Larry and his enthusiasm, this game might be all but forgotten at this point.

Really, I would have settled for a super patch that allowed an increase in map sizes, number of events, and maybe a few more counter color choices. I sort of remember some talk of new graphics also, and that would be nice too.

I don't know where this thing stands, but I suspect it's halfway between Alpha and Beta right now, and it's anyone's guess when any screen shots or Matrix official information is going to come out. I somehow doubt it will be before this winter though.

I can appreciate that everyone is working hard on this project. I just wish Matrix would allow those involved to communicate more freely.

Given today's TOAW IV announcement, I just might have been wrong about where the development of this Title is at.

In this case it's a good thing to be wrong.

There's some reason for hope it seems, and a lot more than there was yesterday. Maybe we will get this earlier than the end of the year. Only time will tell.

One of the things that has changed with TOAW IV is that the AltGraphics directory is replaced with the GraphicsOverride folder.
In that folder you place all the bmp's you prefer to be used for all your games. In this case I have the graphics for damaged RR hexes
that I prefer. And the new graphics for bridges. I could have just as well put them into the graphics folder but then I would have to
search for them in and amongst the 1,000 other bmp files in there. This way they are all in one place easily found and replaced if
needed.

Also, please note the new directory of mine called the Classic recon redos where the beta team is reviewing all the old
favorites to see which ones need some TLC and which are good to go as they are. Brian is heading up that effort. I'm going to look
at all the Road To Moscow series scenarios to make sure they are okie dokie. And there's a bunch of new scenarios that will
be included in the release. It's all planned to be the total package this time.

The old TOAW 3 Scenario viewer does not work in TOAW 4. Whoever designed it should contact Tamas to join the team. I found the viewer very helpful in the past

Is it more that just an XML editor to design? Asking about the equipment editor integration native into TOAW 4, I was told any XML editor should fit.

The screen shot above shows files in the format *.png

Microsoft Paint files can be saved in the format *.png

So I presume that the game files can be edited in Microsoft Paint. is that correct?

Well, I use The Gimp, so I don't know about Microsoft Paint. But the graphics files are mostly png, except for some legacy stuff.

Do you mean paint.net? It's good, free and I use it. There are other freeware graphics programs but I find paint.net very intuitive.

And finally we have some screenshots!Althought I would expected a more pronounced evolution overall it looks good, expecially the interface, but I'm just a bit worried about the combat results panel which seems really "skimpy" (just loss in percentages???)but I suppose a more detailed report is available...

Yes of course the details you can be used to from the previous game are available (and then some).

That screenshot just meant to show a totally new report, which is a summary of all the combats that have happened that turn. In hindsight, we probably should have shown a turn with several combats to make that more obvious. :)
