It’s an operational wargame for result-fussy armchair Generals, and not a sissy-girlie 3-D arcade game for the masses. [:'(]

Yea I agree the 1024 x 768 resolution's gotta go.I was just playing war plan orange(great game) and it looks crappy on my laptop's 17 in screen.Even just one Widescreen resolution would be great, it could atleast take up most of the screen. The big black bars on the side of the screen look hideous.

That's interesting about widescreen. It scales nicely in full screen on my 19", but it isn't a widescreen.

That's because the standard 19" (non widescreen) LCD is the same aspect ratio as the game. Widescreens are generally 16:10 aspect ratio and the game will look stretched when scaled to fill the screen. The game scales fine on my laptop too. It actually looks pretty good on my desktop which is a 24" widescreen. Plenty of scaling options on most modern equipment and video cards.

The graphics question is certainly valid. I'm definately an old school PC gamer, my C64 still works! But this is 2009. HOI3 was just released and requires a decent PC and 3D card to run. Not throwing stones, the AE group had to work with what they were given but lets have a sanity check: 1024 X 768??? Even in 2004 that was a head scratcher.

Before you start flaming me, I consider WitP the best PC game ever made, and AE only makes it better. But I also play the Silent Hunter series, BOB, and COD.

graphically, I can't see why, just played the demo and the game is ugly as sin.
The plenitude of resolution options is the only thing I found good about it.

It will look a lot better on 1920 x 1200 monitor rather than on a 1920 x 1080 native resolution widescreen which is the High Definition video standard and the resolution of a lot of 22"/24" Monitors.

My 24" is 1920 x 1200 which gives me black bars across the top and bottom for widescreen movies but gives better scaling for PC applications. A compromise I'm happy with. [:D]
Cheers,
Reg.

Both sides are right. I love WitP for its brain, but if I could have some sort of 3D graphical representation playing in the combat screen, I would pay.

Too bad matrix doesn't get together with Navy Field. That sort of graphic animation representing the battles would be cool.

I'm for better graphics if they convey more information for my decision making process. If they are just there to make it 'modern looking', screw it.

I'll take smarts over looks any day. Fortunately I didn't have to make that decision when I picked my wife...

Hmmm. Great "graphics" and a superb "AI"? Must be a helluva "game"!

Just gotta be careful that you're not the one being "played". [;)]

Nonsense. WITP should be played in text mode. A set of topographic maps that you can write with a pencil, and a teletype - that's all it took in real life. [:D]

ps: and I won't even get started that combat reports should come in Morse code, hahaha
