First Impressions

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Maybe add some small hash marks to show the direction of the slope?

Perhaps. This first map is definitely a bit of trial by error. Trying to balance detail with not spending a large amount of time on each map.

That's the issue I had to deal with. How to create 26 new maps in a time frame that allowed you guys to play on them before I turned 95.

Plus Mad Russian had to put up with us programmer and art folks changing the early map materials. Twice. But the third time was the charm. His maps are awesome. [&o][&o][&o]

Yes, some maps were made multiple times. That was at times frustrating but the results were well worth it.

well this game is simply brilliant. Wego is ideal, gives the right degree of control, learning how to organise the various units to interact and to give commands adds to the fun. And the two armies behave realistically.

the 'one more turn' concept, of course runs the risk of creating total addiction (or lack of sleep)

Well as someone with no previous experience of playing modern operational games I have to say the design of this game is simply superb.I remember "Fulda Gap" the board wargame and wishing I could find an opponent many years ago. I think this game may provide me with what I was looking for.

I started with just a print out of the tutorial manual and the tutorial scenario. Within minutes I felt I was on the front line nervously awaiting the onslaught !

The atmosphere in the game and the fact the radio messages can not only be useful but also be fatal given the signature the messages leave for the enemy is another unique feature of this game.

I find the UI intuitive once explained and all in all a huge congratulations to the team.

Now to try some scenarios flying solo :-)

I'm enjoying this game. I was on the fence for a while but glad that I hopped over to the 'buy' side. Like a previous poster, I had a boardgame (West End Games Air & Armour) but no opponent. This game reminds me quite a lot of that one (that's a compliment)[:)]

West End's "Fire Team" is one of the reasons I got on this project.

OK,

First time flying solo as NATO on a Time to Dance scenario. What a blast. Battle really did ebb and flow and only a late counterattack squeaked a 51% marginal win for me as large Soviet losses tipped the balance.

Already see lots of things I could have done better. Losses in HQ's caused my gaps between orders to rise to an hour by scenario end for example.

Heroic ACR holding of two key towns also was memorable.

What a GREAT game.

Hi,

Congratulations to all... [:)]

An outstanding engine.... this one will last and last in various versions.

Talking of “various versions...” yes... I do mean the Eastern Front[;)]. The slowness of WWII when compared with Fulda Gap would give a great operational feel.

Congratulations again...
All the best,
Kip.

We just had the discussion of the differences of time and scale from WWII operations to the combat operations we depict in the game. The discussion did cover what changes would be needed to make that time and scale difference work.

Don't hold your breath. It will be awhile. But it is on the list! [&o]
