This is the final situation after the 4th impulse in the northern half of the map, the south is unchanged.

You have discovered the war winning Russian strategy!

Unfortunately, I have never been able to make it work myself. [:)]
I thought I knew how to play this game....

If it requires a few bad die rolls I will discover any strategy fairly quickly.....

The Germans would like to take advantage of the state of the Russian front (many holes). But many of their key units are still disorganized including all 3 HQs. So as discussed earlier, they will use the Offensive Chit to reorganize all 3 HQs now with the idea to reorganize a few more front line units and then continue to advance. But we may want to wait with the unit re-org until the Storm abates so that there are no supply issues. So HQ reorg only for now.

The Germans use a Land Action.

Given the weather there will be no air actions this turn and just some land unit reshuffling. But a German tank unit manages to take undefended Kaunas leaving us with the following situation:

Turn1 / Impulse 7:

The Russians chose a combined action for the first time in this campaign. They don't plan on many land moves (sadly lacking land units in the key areas anyways). But they want to explore if they can slip out into the Baltic during the bad weather and prey on some German convoys.

Having neglected to protect the convoys at all, the Germans sent out a Nav-Air unit. It is doubtful if it will help much during the rain and appears to be a case of too little too late.

But to their own surprise, the German pilot discovers the Russian fleet in the murky weather and attacks.

The surprise points are spent on increasing the naval combat column and they manage to abort 2 of the Russian ships.

After this, all German units flee from the scene and the Convoy safely reaches the port of Stettin. The Russians have at least managed to force the German convoy to flee. Unless it is moved back into the sea area, it will prevent Swedish resources from reaching Germany.

The Russians also re-establish their front by moving up their reserves from Minsk and the elite tank unit from the Ukraine has now also reached the central front near Brest.

Situation at the end of the Russian impulse. (actually at the beginning of the next German impulse since it already shows the updated weather).

The naval command fires some commanders. The convoys should have stayed at sea. The odds are very good that Russians do not find them. Now they will never be replaced. If Germany ever does not take a land action in this scenario, things are going badly for Germany

given the weather turning immediately it looks like things are already going against germany...

not sure i would reorg HQs and then not do anything with them, waiting in bad weather is waiting for the turn to end which it will do quickly. you will end the turn with reorg'd hqs that did nothing but use an OC

Should have done the firing earlier ....

I didn't realize that the convoys have such a high chance of surviving - good to know.

That is a fair point - I was hoping for one or two remaining impulses of good weather - but it may never materialize.

The Germans chose a land action yet again and fly a single sortie on a slightly exposed Russian unit. This fails and they call again all attacks off for this impulse. There are just not enough attackers left that can act.

During land movement v. Bock's HQ moves up to be able to reorganize key front line units. Other Germans move into position for a final push in a possible next impulse. They take possession of the port of Latvian port of Liepaja. Then all HQs re-organize their units and praying to the weather gods.
