AAR #1 - Germany V. The AI

RE: AAR #1 - Germany V. The AI
There is a minimal garrison that Germany must maintain in East Prussia and Western Poland to keep Russia in check....if you pull these units out, in order to use them elsewhere, then Russia will become unfrozen and invade.......

Fall '43
Germany easily reoccuppied Leningrad the previous season and now once again attacks Kalinin...though the area is retaken, I suffer more damage than I can afford....

Winter '44 at start
I basically realized I lost this war back in '42 as I failed to make the significant gains in Russia that is needed for victory...Now in the beginning of '44 that point is driven home...
Russia springs 8 armor units in a two area blitz to retake Leningrad and conduct offensives along the entire front during Fall '43 turn.....

Germany pulls out of Kalinin and Velkiye Luki in order to establish a common front....in hindsight, I should have never attacked Kalinin and instead consolidated my frontlines from Leningrad to Odessa....I should have listened to my Generals!... [:)]
I pull out of Norway, while I have the transports able to do it. and try to fortify Northern Italy with as much as I can spare.....

Once the Allies were unfettered by Germany, it was only a matter of time before Japan received the fatal blow....
So there you have it....one aspect of the game I did not illustrate much is the Air War and how allied bombing raids on Germany and the occuppied territories caused much damage to the army and infrastructure....that is another aspect of the decision making to consider, the need for Air Defence and devoting some research towards it...
So I would rate myself as a C- in this game....playing Germany is perhaps the toughest side to win and you need to develop near flawless play, which you can see, I did not...the AI is aggressive and surprised me, despite the many times I have played the game....for example, the Leningrad armor blitz had me searching for the reload button, but in the end, I swallowed my pride and played fair!...[:D]

JP, excellent AAR! It's encouraging to see the Russians on the offensive and the WA conducting Med ops to invade Italy in 1943, then invading France in 1944, and then driving home a victory. Very historical in many ways. Perhaps too historical? No matter, it's great to see a challenging AI in action. [8D]

Great AAR. I'd love to see more AARs involving the AI, because it seemed to handle itself very well in this game.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to post this for us.

Thanks for the comments and I'm glad some of you enjoyed it.....there is a new build coming out in a few days, when it is out perhaps I'll do a WA v. AI AAR

Hey, they've changed the color for Allied-controlled territories, haven't they? I personally liked the solid green better. This new close-to-white thing looks kind of close to the neutral country color... at first I had trouble understanding what was going on in North Africa.[&:]

Have no concerns as I was using the option which differentiates between the UK and USA.... though I will agree that the color is a bit too close to neutral, a screen pic makes it look closer than it is.....
Here's a screen with the option on...

...and here is a screen with the option off, and only one WA Icon used...this will be more to your liking....

Interesting read. How much time did it take you to play this scenario?

Do not look at the dates on my posts and think this game must take forever to play.... I'm a hard one to guage this by as 16 hour work days interrupted the game, posting turns and making screenshots made turns longer, and the NFL playoffs divided my attention....[;)]....If you play the game uninterupted, non stop, you can finish it in one lengthy gaming session when you control Germany, Japan or Russia...the WA, or controling Germany and Japan, will take longer because you have both theaters to attend to, but can also be done in one or two gaming sessions depending on how many hours you will devote to playing...you can save the game at any point and also the autosave feature, which can save the at start position of every power (player and AI controlled), for every turn, can be utilized...
RE: AAR #1 - Germany V. The AI
Hmm, even the solid green seems a bit muted to me. And why isn't the USSR a more bright red? The game looks fabulous, but the map's color scheme seems a tad muted to me.
