I started chuckling at the thread title....then it struck me: BoB is the perfect name for the game!

Battle of Brothers!

We can have an IJN Bob thread and a Allied Bob thread.....and then a Battle Bob thread for all the hilarious sniping I expect you goobs will generate.

[:D]

OH! I must have the wrong 3x3 game...I thought it was battle of the boobs. [:'(][:D][;)]

Anyone: i am getting conflicting info about the installation.

According to Scott, you just download the extended map, not AB regular map. But according to AB's instruction, you MUST install AB Regular Map, then the extended map.

i tried this - and everthing is fouled up - no Aden, no Panama, ships not showing most of the time on combat animations, and the bases appearing WAY off when compared to the land masses (PH is in the Pacific Ocean SE of the Big Island for instance.)

Any ideas?

Sokay - AB's instructions were pretty thorough... i have it installed now - you DO have to install the AB Standard Map, then AB Extended Map. When the batch file asks to backup your regular art files, do it or else it aborts some key steps.

If you load everything and fire it up and it looks wonky, run the ModSelect utility - select (iirc) option 5 (Both CHS art and CHS extended map) - and it should look OK.

Hi guys,

I'm being a bit of a dumbass here. I'm trying to install the CHS stuff but am having problems with the maps for starters! I've created a copy of WiTP and renamed it as CHS folder. I then donwloaded AB map and ran the auto-install thing. I'm not even sure if that worked ok BUT then I downloaded the extended map and I THINK i've installed the bits in the right place but have no idea..........

Hi guys..........just to give us all an Idea of the poss. timetable to the start of hostilities..........The Japs.....will work out their command structure in the next 2 days......If Mike is about...he has been absent from the forums for the last day or two..........then 5 days or so....for us to agree a grand stategy.........then another 5-6 days to do the turn.....so sometime after the 1st of Feb.

As far as the allies first turn.....the normal no creation of new TFs but move existing ones I think should apply.......all units in China may move...aa they are already at war........no moving airgoups(except China)........if anything else occurs to me......I'll post....how does that sound?

I'm not part of this, but I'd like to comment on a couple of house rules here.

Why allow only allied evacuations with AKs? Shouldn't this apply to both sides?

On airfield overstacking - it is something that I have always disliked, but I can see the occasion where it might be necessary. The game allows only 50 a/c per airfield level, I allow myself to overstack up to 50 more per level (i.e., 100 a/c can be at a level 1, 300 at a level 5, etc.)for short periods of time (I don't do it for longer because I don't like the way it leaves too many damaged a/c at the base). This allows the occasional need for an extreme effort, but prevents the gamey overcrowding that some of you have seen.

I'm not necessarily suggesting that you guys switch to my way of thinking, but only wanted to throw out those thoughts for future contemplation...

fair winds,
Brad

The AK suggestion wasn't for just one side (exceptions for both sides existed)... and it was removed as being unworkable.

Hmmm - that is the problem with the installation batch file - it is hard to know what went where... from what i gather, everything in the ORIGINAL \Matrix Games\War In the Pacific\ file gets patched - but go to that file folder (\Matrix Games\War In the Pacific\) and make sure you run the MODSELECT utility and choose CHS art - CHS Extended Map (i think option 5)... then to run CHS, just execute the original shortcut... once installed, you can try renaming everything to your satisfaction.

The file that has the MODSELECT utility is apparently the one that was changed to CHS. You are supposed to run it only if you have the single installation, but i find it is not necessarily true.

Once you fire up the thing, it should be immediately apparent as places like the Panama Canal and Aden will be on the map. If you don't see it, something is wrong.

EDIT: I don't think you will be able to see the map until the entire CHS installation is done... (but i could be wrong).
