Thanks guys, really appreciate the support [:)]

My Dad's coming to stay from France this weekend so things are going to be a bit disrupted here. Not sure I will get a chance to do any more slides till next week, but I'm hopefully going to have time to do one for the opening stage of the Northern sector to help out a new guy to the game.
Its not meant to be till much later in the AAR, but I think I'll bring this one forward, as it is a very tricky part of the battle.
BTW my game I was playing to help me with the AAR planning that I posted about here
tm.asp?m=3345474
and a snippet here
tm.asp?m=3313015
ended in the AI surrendering with 11 hours still to run on the clock!
So I think we are on the right track [:)]

Slide 37
I'm no where near ready for this slide yet, so unfortunately there is no slide yet to explain the mission, or the plan.
This is purely a copy this layout, and it will get you into the forest with minimal casualties slide.
To ensure your lines of communications are kept clear of the enemy use your artillery and werfer units to line the road, nicely spaced out.
Move them into position along it as soon as it is safe for them to do so.
Artillery is no good in attack but it is great for holding ground, once deployed into cover.

Just a quick note on micro management, and interference levels of play.
This slide is very high micro management. You can get similar results by using the 2 Bn's just detach the support units, give 1 Bn HQ 989 Gren Regt an order to move in Arrow head formation so that it passes just outside LOS of the entrenched enemy at the road junction to its South, by passing it to the North, and the other Bn a defend order roughly along the line of the Hockerlinie where they are in my slide.
You can do this whole scenario with just using Bn level, and Regimental level attacks, but you won't get as good results.
Its like most things in life, you get out what you put in.
My attacks in the south are at a higher level of command, Bn or Regimental, because they are not attacking across open ground, they are already in the forest, but the ones in the North start very close to the enemy position, with an expanse of no mans land to cross, and you only have 1 hour of darkness left, so there is no time for re-Orgs they need to get moving right away.
There organization is maxed out at the start of the scenario anyway so just get them moving!
Daylight is coming, and its an infantry mans worst nightmare in open terrain, on the offensive.

Edit: Fixed typo that may have caused confusion for 1, 2, and 3 Coy 989 Gren Regt, follow on moves once entering forest

I doubt its simulated, or the VT fuze come to that.

I have written about it to drive home the fact that the Allied, and the Axis artillery come to that is devastating to your infantry.

I don't expect there is any difference between the two in game, but for anyone that was upset because they think the arty in game is too powerful then hopefully this will at least give them a reason why.

Its just for a bit of flavour, and some history really.

Sorry if it has confused anyone.

Slide 38
I know I am repeating myself a bit, as some of this was covered in the last slide, but remember that slide was out of place, and not meant to be in the AAR till much later.
I'm still on the planning stage, Enemy forces.
Enemy Protection and mobility to follow soon, then we move onto Friendly forces [;)]

Amazing, daz, just amazing. And I'd say that "amazing" doesn't make justice to the effort made here. The countermeasures you describe to ameliorate US artillery deserve a separate posting on The War Room.

I'm really looking forward to see your operational plan outlined. This is perhaps one of the most complex scenarios in BftB.

I'd like to suggest you to post saved games of interesting moments in the game (initial orders, decisions, breakthrough if it happens, etc.). That would allow peeps to try and see things by themselves, and doesn't require much more effort on your behalf.

Thanks BG, your making my blush [:D]
Yeah, attaching saves would be a great idea, if your interested.
My first one will be after all initial orders are set just before the clock starts to tick, so you can let it run yourself to see how it goes [:)]

Don't worry guys I've not abandoned my AAR, far from it.

We have been experiencing a very rare (for the UK) heat wave these last 4 weeks or so, and its been about 30deg in my office where my main computer is. The one that is powerful enough to run Photoshop.

So I have been spending as little time as possible in it, preferring to be outdoors, or in our cool conservatory in the evenings watching movies with the wife, cooking on the BBQ, and watching the evening/night sky with a glass of wine in hand.

As soon as the weather gets bad again, I'll be back in my office working on the next slide for you :)

Slide 45

Shown is the reinforcement schedule for the Axis forces Historical reinforcements.

The units are lined up in the order that they will enter the map when their appointed time arrives, and the movement arrows indicate the approximate location they will arrive in.

The Bn and Regimental boundary boxes are colour coded to correlate to the coloured segments around the 24 hour clocks.
This is the time window that the formation will arrive on the map.

The 24 hour clock has day/night cycle segments, as well as Dawn, Dusk, Sunrise, and Sunset marked on it for this scenario.

Hope you find it useful.
