Conlict of heroes...Matrix?

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Having said that I would not be interested in a straight port from the board game, I will be even less interested in a dumbned-down version of it.

Fields of Glory - the miniatures version - was dumbned down for the PC losing, IMO, a lot in the process. Hopefully this will not be the case with CoH.

Your all sending a chill donw my side..no AI??

Eric has stated that it has been chnged to make it fit in with the PC. I only hope that means new more detailed features and an AI. If it's to abstract and if it has no AI I'm out.

Wow, it's amazing to watch rumors get started. [8D]

It is faithful to the boardgame, has a good AI, easy to learn but historically accurate, it looks great graphically with both a top down map/chit view and a full 3D view and it has plenty of new original firefights as well as all the original Awakening the Bear firefights. We are in final beta testing and checking out the multiplayer system and making final tweaks and adding polish. That's as much as I will say now. Big announcement coming this week.

Sounds great, all I want to know now is if soldiers are actually taken into account for casualties etc..or is it a case of the chit becoming a half squad? I do hope that it is the former and not the latter, as with the power of a pc we really can take into account all the individuals of a squad to work out wounded\killed.

Rumours abound in the absence of facts [;)]

Still, good to hear that it replicates the boardgame, has an AI and includes additional firefights. Thanks for the heads-up Erik; looking forward to the detailed news later in the week.

Have you played Conflict of Heroes? It's a great game design and we remained faithful to it. It translates well to the computer overall and we did not set out to redesign it as part of adapting it for computer play. The main thing it benefits from on the computer is 3D graphics and AI, a TCP/IP multiplayer system and a scenario editor. We think that computer wargamers that have not tried the boardgame will enjoy the gameplay that Conflict of Heroes offers and we think board gamers who love it will be very happy with the computer version. This a game that is easy to learn and fast to play but gives historically realistic outcomes that reward historical tactics. Playing the scenarios is like eating wargame potato chips, you can't eat just one and when you get into a multiplayer match you can have an amazing amount of wargaming fun without having to schedule a lot of time.

Regards,

- Erik

Like the sound of this.

Personally I'm probably in the opposite camp to wodin, I like to be able to look at a virtual counted on a computer screen and know that the numbers I see on it give me all the information, I don't want to have to open up screen after screen (or for that matter even a single screen) to get information on the unit. I'm a board wargamer at heart so what I most want in a computer game is a good boardgame with a challenging AI rather than rather than a highly detailed and "accurate" simulation.

Most board wargames designers ditched the throw as much chrome as possible at it style of monster game decades ago and have only improved because of it.

Some of the best recent Matrix releases (in my opinion) have been those that have a bordgaming mentality / origin such as Hannibal, Battle Academy and Unity of Command.

I believe that this post reveals so much about the game that the only real mystery left is the identity of the developers.

Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I torment eager potential customers by not sharing screenshots of "Brother Against Brother." Everyone has a talent.

Oh Gil we had that worked out ages ago mate..where you been..oh yes developing a WW2 wargame..

Are the units still on counters? I hope it's just a 3D map and we don't have Panzer Corp style units.

Looking forward to it. Though I'd need to read peoples opinion first. Abstraction at the tactical level can irk. Most of the problems with Squad battles is due to abstraction and thats far less abstracted than a boardgame.

Your correct on that the price will drop in a few weeks or so. May have to wait alittle bit and see how this pan's out.[;)]
