Leader Combat Ratings

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Leader Combat Ratings

Post by Michael T »

Can anyone tell me how the different leader combat ratings (Mech/Inf) are actually used. I mean when is the Inf value used as opposed to when is the Mech value is used.

I assume that if an attacking or defending force is entirely INF or Mech then the corresponding rating is used. But what rating is used when the there is a mix of each? And does Mot Inf count as Inf or Mech?

EG defender has 2 Tank Brigades plus a INF Div. What rating is used?

Attacker 1 INF and 1 Panzer Div. Again which rating?

Perhaps its on a unit by unit approach. I have no idea. The manual is vague on this.

I think it depends on the type of unit engaged in tactical combat, i.e. Mech checks for Motorized units, Inf checks for non-motorized. Though it could also go all down to the ground element level (rather than the on-map combat unit).

EDIT: A per-unit basis is my guess.

Mechanized is used for Armor, Mechanized and Motorized unit formation types, infantry rating for the rest of types.

Thanks Pavel. So it is on a per unit basis?

I recall someone asking before if Cavalry used the Mech Rating, and the answer was in the affirmative. Not sure who gave that answer.

Helpless, can you confirm Cav is Infantry?

Yes. Cavalry is separate formation type and it is using infantry rating.

Well...darn it. Time to reshuffle some units and leaders...

Thanks, anyhow, for clarifying it.
