I would rarely consider surrendering China at least as long as you can produce 4 per turn.

When the US enters the war, China's presence is necessary to force Japan to take land moves at especially bad moments. Usually, China shouldn't get that bad unless very unlucky, or China attacked wrecklessly.

China should only attack when there is something really important to gain, such as cutting supply to several units, or recapturing a city. Japan should have a hard time preventing infiltration in the backyard: that is China's asset. Once behind, you could cut supply to many units.

If China is not in the war, then Japan has the enromous advantage of having one front only: defend the sea.

Japan would be stuck with only combined movements until at war again. What happens to their production multiple?

production multiple stays the same, but they would be stuck with combineds. Also, all their reserves on the map go home (reserves in the force pool are removed from the game) as well as all their Mil, which might mess up their overseas deployments.

Each of those countries named on the chart on a green background is eligible if it is conquered or any of its hexes are enemy controlled.
