Destroyer combat tips anyone?

<t> I've flown as a fighter pilot fairly successfully. It's all great until you run out of counter measures. Better hope nobody shoots more than 10 missiles at you!<br/>
<br/>
However, as a destroyer captain, I am rubbish. In a ship to ship fight, I can't survive a single head-on battle. I ...

RE: Vector Please!

<t> Ah, well, now I see why command doesn't care who I shoot down in the heat of combat. It seems people who should be on the same side are at one another's throats.<br/>

RE: Starshatter 4.0 virtual cockpit?

Are there any virtual cockpit mods available for 4.0 that I could download?

Starshatter 4.0 virtual cockpit?

<t> I've given up on Starshatter 5.0 for a while and I'm back to 4.0. The eye candy in 5.0 is sweet, but there are some technical issues that make me enjoy 4.0 more.<br/>
<br/>
The same key (Shift+F1) is in both Starshatter 4.0 and 5.0. In 5.0, it seems to work: there's a cool virtual cockpit ...

RE: Vector Please!

<t> So, let me get this straight. If I stick you in a ship and shove you blindly into the middle of a battle with orders to kill people (oh, and try not to kill your team mates) that's OK. If I actually tell you which direction the enemies are, that's hand-holding? I just want to be clear.<br/>

RE: Vector Please!

<t> Thanks, JT. <br/>
<br/>
I suspect the issue might be the addition of the voices. With the voice talent, maybe they didn't want to have them call the 360 possible vectors. On the other hand, if they called out each digit separately, they wouldn't need to. <br/>

I would like to see a ...

RE: Vector Please!

<t> OK, seriously. Does anyone have anything constructive to say here? I mean, they could vector in enemies back in WWII. They could do it in Starshatter 4.0. What is the purpose of witholding that information now? <br/>
<br/>
As a commander, I wouldn't send my pilots into combat without giving ...

Vector Please!

<t> In Starshatter 4, when you requested a picture, the carrier would tell you which bogie to attack AND provide a vector. In Starshatter 5, it seems they no longer provide a vector! Why has the AI been seemingly downgraded from 4.0? I could stop and look at the map, whip out a compass, hold it ...

What heading, sir?

<t> In Starshatter 4.5, when you asked for a picture, they told you what to attack and what heading to take. In Gathering Stom, they just tell you the target. Do they just assume that I automatically know where all the enemies are so they can just rattle off names and I can spit out coordinates? I ...

Remove Speed Cap?

<t> I know almost nothing about modding, but I thought: if there was a variable or something in the game that represented each ship's max speed or something, it would be possible to remove the speed cap. I think it would be cool to be able to accelerate to whatever speed you can attain given the ...

RE: Fuel Usage observation

<t> I have noticed that the regular, non-augmented thrust seems way underpowered, so in order to get the kind of thrust you would expect from a small fighter, you tend to use the augmenter a lot. In the air, the waypoints are set to be reached at 750 clicks. That's pretty fast, and if you don't have ...

Minor weirdness and wishes (combined post)

<t> First of all: I'm very impressed with the improvements. The graphics are awe inspiring, the cockpit art is excellent, and the framerate is still fine. Well done.<br/>

Sticky menu buttons

<t> I sometimes find that when I move the cursor over the menu buttons, the cursor stops and I can't click the button. If I move the cursor away, it sticks for a bit and then eventually pops in another location. It may take several attempts, for instance, to successfully click the Accept or Exit ...

RE: Gathering Storm carrier landing

Ah, that was it. I was coasting into the carrier, as it didn't make sense to have the engines going while I was trying to slow down. Now I can land every time (and even once when my yaw thrusters were gone and I had to maneuver in with only pitch thrusters).

Thank you!

Gathering Storm carrier landing

<t> I'm finding it impossible to land on carriers after a successful mission. I keep restarting from the beginning because I don't want it to go against my record, but because I CANNOT successfully land on a carrier, I can't get past the first mission. I have slowed down to almost stop and it still ...
