RE: Will we ever get a truly epic age of sail strategy/simulation?

I just think it is way too old to revisit and actually play.

I see that it's available on GOG for $6. I plan to give it a try.

RE: Looking for a portable laptop for DOS games

<t> A couple of years ago I picked up a Panasonic Toughbook, 2001 era, for US$86. I wiped the hard drive and then installed Win XP SP 1. I use it exclusively for DOS (with DOSBox) and early Windows games. That version of Windows did not require an internet connection to install, so the Toughbook has...

RE: Noob Wargame Question

<t> Many years ago I did a mod of AH's Blitzkrieg for Empire II, a wargame at the easy end of the complexity scale. I also did Tactics II and posted them both at the Wargamer. The Wargamer's scenario archive seems to have disappeared but I will be happy to send you a copy if you happen to have the g...

RE: very playable on windows 7

For me (running Win7x64) all of my problems disappeared when I started setting my screen resolution = 1024 x 768 BEFORE running the game. This applies to all 3 Hussar games. Of course, compatibility should be set to WinXP also.

Have you tried setting your display resolution to 1024 x 768? That works for me on Win7x64.

RE: NII and Windows 7 (64bits)

In my experience, the thing that really got NiI running under Win7x64 was to set the screen resolution = 1024 x 768. Do this on the desktop before you run the game. Hope this helps.

Sounds interesting - who designed/developed it?

Vengeance appears to be an updated version of Medieval 2 (which was an update of Medieval) by Jeff Lapkoff and Incredible Simulations. Good game.

Empire II had a Blenheim scenario.

I always hoped that Norm Koger would do "Age of Muskets" but, alas, it never happened.

RE: Games that let you down

Napoleon, 1813 (Empire Interactive). If you confined yourself to reading the manual, you would see a clever, sophisticated take on a Napoleonic campaign - it looked like a great system (still does). In fact, the game is unplayable due to bugs, even with all patches applied.
