This is smelling bad for him again : At this point of the war, you could lose most of the KB, if you do enough damage, you've set him back again for a while, which he can't afford.

Japan doesn't keep "aces" alive long, but can keep a very decently experienced Air Force, with solid overall experience and specialized skills.
