RE: Early Soviet Strategies

<t> I never actually answered BK6583's question. Yes, I completely crushed Mario back then. We played 4 times or so, I gave up only on the 1st game after 2 turns, but in retrospect I shouldn't have. Been playing Across the Dnepr, and managed to crush all comers, whether as Soviet or Germans. 10 ...

RE: So Anything Going On?

Kharkov was designed as a more or less table-top boardgame, similar to the 'games' Hitler, Zhukov, Manstein played out. The 'action' has to be imagined in your own head if you will. Again imo, best wargame ever developed (Gary Grigsby's 'War in Russia' notwithstanding).

RE: So Anything Going On?

<t> I'd have to add that I've been playing board wargames/computer wargames for 25 years now, and this system, since its inception with Ardennes Offensive, is the best I've ever encountered. I've been thinking a lot about the non-appeal of these such games, and come to the conclusion that the steep ...

RE: Defend Krasnograd?

Btw SS, are you talking about how to get the Wiking SS panzer div? Soviets need to take Krasnograd, then you get to place them 2 turns later and use them the turn after.

RE: Defend Krasnograd?

<r> Lol, overrun junkie. Aren't we all?? <br/>

<QUOTE><s>
</s>My Kharkov defense needs a lot of troops cause I do so much counterattacking every turn so I need troops to fight with the tanks and more for the hogs.<e>
</e></QUOTE>

Problem I see with that defense, is that as ...

RE: Defend Krasnograd?

Playing as the Soviets, I can say that if the german player uses both panzer divs at Kharkov, then I have a more or less free hand in other areas and can move my pieces accordingly. If he uses 1, then I'm forced to think twice about my moves everywhere on the board.

RE: Defend Krasnograd?

<r> <QUOTE><s>
</s>I put 4 units hedgehog in Krasnograd itself and hope they stay there for long. Most of the time they did. I keep ALL my big units near Kharkov till the front are secure there (About 5 turns). After that, I send the two Panzer Div. to re-take Krasnograd. Usually it work well ...

RE: Defend Krasnograd?

<r> I play both sides quite well as a matter of fact! Knowing both sides well is a great advantage, for you know the strengths/weaknesses of each side. When playing as the germans, I can see 'mistakes' in every Soviet opening, which I'll use to my advantage. Since there is no perfect opening, there ...

<r> As I hear you're one of the best players Talos, I do accept your challenge! I have one ongoing game against CarlMyers, we just started an all-variants game. <br/>

Defend Krasnograd?

<r> Wanted to ask others what they thought of a particular opener for the Germans. I've noticed in my last 4 email games that my opponents (ie Mario, CarlMyers) have repeatedly declined to contest Krasnograd/Lanaya/Pereshchepino, and move forces there to defend against the southern Kharkov thrust ...

RE: PBEM Bugs

Variants. Not so sure if it happens with Historical, haven't tested it yet. Has no one else experienced this problem? It's happened a few times now. Anyhow, in a current game, me vs Mario, it happened once to Mario, but when he reloaded the problem disappeared.

RE: Early Soviet Strategies

Before you ask so many questions about the german side Capitaine, why don't you take a few minutes to take a look at their units and/or play them ;o). You can answer your own questions if ya do!

RE: PBEM Bugs

Mario has also just complained about 'invisible' units. He had to reload the turn and then it worked. During our first game however, no matter how many times I reloaded, they stayed invisible. This could lead to corrupt turns I imagine....

Seems to be ok with a 2nd game we've started, although we're only on turn 2 so far. We'll keep y'all updated when/if it happens again.

RE: Impressions after Soviet Win

<t> No gaming system is perfect. If we implemented traffic rules, redeployment rules, advanced refueling rules, etc etc,&nbsp; for Kharkov then the game would probably get boring fast. The way it is now, it's smooth and without all the nitty-gritty that doesn't interest the vast majority of us ...

RE: Early Soviet Strategies

<t> Thanks for the input Gregor. I also see the 4-stack/1-line offensive as the only realistic way to advance forward for the reasons you mentioned. <br/>
&nbsp;<br/>
I have, however,&nbsp;started a game here against our friend Mario Vallee, and he has the unusual Soviet start of not advancing at ...
