Re: Vietnam Combat Operations update

I downloaded the entire series a few years back; if that old hard drive will boot, I can send anyone the files via email. It would be a chore for me so I'd rather someone else would post the series to a web page before I do that. It would involve me dragging a tower out of storage and hooking it up ...

Re: Any Ongoing Development Work?

Several years ago I converted a lot of the scenario description files to PDF and dropped them onto the google docs thing so people could d/l them etc. I think the links are still here somewhere. i found them to be lot easier to read. I'll leave a link here if I can find them. Edit: here is one of ...

Re: Quick Answers

I seem to recall that putting artillery on three dots seemed to burn the round faster, whereas on one dot I got more combat rounds. But that was just my impression. The actual difference, I don't know.

Re: Quick Answers

Its been a long time since I played, but as I recall the supply routes are all traced through land hexes. I forget the details. The manual is online I think. I don't know how the Grigsby game works.

Re: Dinosaur needing help

The *.sce file has to be placed (copied into) the correct file directory so that it can be "read" by the game.

It has been a very long time for me, so I may be wrong, but it should be in a sub-directory of the c:\......\TOAW\......
game files structure on your local hard drive.

Sorry I couldn't be ...

Re: What do you do?

I began many years ago with little green army men. We would construct "fortifications" out of twigs and grass and then "bomb" them with stones. I also remember playing army in the neighborhood. We would go throughout the neighborhood carrying our rifles and pistols. Today, that would get the SWAT ...

Re: What do you do?

REFORGER is short for "REturn of FORces to GERmany". And was an exercise the US Army practices just in case.

There is (or was when I was in) a sizeable US force in Germany and in the event of WWIII or the Cold War turning Hot, those stationed in Germany were to delay until the REFORGER units from ...

Re: What do you do?

I retired from financial auditing. I was in the military a long long time ago (in the Second Armored Division, thus my logo.)

We made up our war games as kids, played Chess during the Fischer era without computers (and still do), and subscribed to S&T magazine / games back in the 1970s. I have been ...

Re: Interface question

To answer your question: there are various ways one can cycle through units.

The easiest way is to use the "next unit" key. I think it is "." by default (I'm not sure, the manual says somewhere.)

Or you can just click on a different stack.

I hope this helps.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my father over 20 years ago. I can still hear in my mind him calling CQ (he was a HAM.)

It is possible that your father's collection could be much more valuable than you realize. I personally would pay $1000 for an unboxed, un-punched original of a certain title which i ...

Some years ago, I and user GenJCL managed to finish a campaign. Took us about a year and 200 plus moves after we managed to dodge the "auto end" conditions. It was a lot of fun. we played via email as I recall.

Thank you.
You may like Upton Sinclair's novel _World's End_ which is the first in his series of "Lanny Budd" novels. Good fiction in a WWI setting, and the whole series is a good read (covers the entire world war eras).

<t> It appears to me, that it is indeed your Matrix Games User id stuff, and from the manual it seems that when you go to register the game, that process links it with your Matrix games user id. Not sure about how to do that process, it has been too long since I did that to remember details, but ...
