RE: Horse and Musket series

I am pleased to see a bit of life on this forum. I really hope work will continue/resume on new versions of the game.

Does anyone know if or how well the game functions on Windows 8?

RE: What is this game?

Will there be an editor for the game? The talk about simularities to Civil War Generals is intriguing, but the editor was one of the best things about that old game.

Thanks

Will there be a Volume II? Can anyone give a definitive answer?

I check the forum a couple of times per week. Eagerly awaiting the next game in the series.

RE: AI and artillery

<t> I agree with these comments regarding AI and artillery. The AI tendency to push artillery units into untenable and unrealistic positions is very frustrating. This tendency has been consistent through all variations of the game (and I have bought 4 versions thus far). I have attempted to adapt to ...

RE: Gettysberg

<t> Custer's motives while complex, were relatively clear for the most part. He recently had fallen into disfavor with the Grant administration because of testimony he gave to a congressional committee investigating fraud within the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Custer had little concrete information to ...

RE: Gettysberg

<t> I don't know what Lee was thinking. It is possible that he hoped to keep up the momentum established by the Confederates at Chancellorsville. He certainly hoped that another such victory -- won on Northern soil -- might yet result in official recognition of the Confederacy by Britain and/or ...

RE: Gettysberg

<t> I think that Chancellorsville rather proves the point about the Confederate failure of command at Gettysburg. Lee and Jackson had developed a method of communication which worked to very good effect. Lee issued orders worded as suggestions and Jackson possessed the aggressiveness, tenacity, and ...

RE: Gettysberg

<t> Lee did not have a good three days at Gettysburg. I don't know the extent of his illness there, but he did suffer some severe illnesses during the war and -- as Gordon Rhea notes in his multi-volume study of the Overland Campaign -- when Lee fell ill his natural aggressiveness became far more ...

RE: Truncated screen with Windows 7

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, it did not solve the problem. I also tried switching from "normal window" to "maximum", but again with no effect. Any other suggestions?

Truncated screen with Windows 7

<t> I just had my computer upgraded to Windows 7. I reinstalled HNM Vol I but now the game opens with about 2 inches of black borders on the side and about a half inch border at the top and bottom. The editor opens normally. Can anyone tell me how to get back to a full screen display?<br/>

RE: Gettysberg

<t> I really do not disagree with any of your points (sorry -- I would have enjoyed a good debate). The inability of either side to achieve a decisive battlefield victory in the eastern theatre of the war ultimately forced Grant to adopt a policy of attrition. In the western theatre geography and ...

RE: Gettysberg

<t> The only real chance the Confederates had to win Gettysburg came on the first day when the fighting generally favored them. Ewell's failure to respond effectively to Lee's suggestion/order that he take Culps Hill on the Union army's right flank permitted northern commanders to anchor their line ...

On a related note, the AWI will need provision for mounted infantry for the southern campaigns.

RE: Bug ? Disengagement and MP

I agree with Sarge.&nbsp; Cavalry and light troops should have some capacity to decline combat with any unit possessing less movement capacity than themselves. &nbsp;
