RE: Finished Campaign Screenshot

[[[I have seen the AI displace and attack when I take an objective, though perhaps we can make it a bit more aggressive in that regard.]]]

Well yes, it isn't THAT static! [:)]

RE: Finished Campaign Screenshot

<r> Well true. A 30 turn game is only 20 minutes of actual combat. But on the defensive tanks generally don't just sit in one spot. They will find a good hulldown, fire a few shots, back out and move laterally, move up again and fire a few more shots, repeat. At the very least they will start ...

RE: good chance to hit?

<t> Not sure if this is related but in general I've had situations where line of site was blocked, with a gray line, depending on exactly where I clicked on a target. It if fudged it around a bit I could get a clear LOS. Seems odd but it has happened on a number of occasions.<br/>

RE: Finished Campaign

Erik,

Good news on the Russian campaign. I haven't started it yet. I didn't realize you could snap a screenshot of the campaign end page. I believe I had three decisive wins and two marginals.

RE: To Buy?

I would just say they are different. I wouldn't say one is better than the other. CM is perhaps more 'detailed'. PC is perhaps a bitter broader in scope. I think for the most part if you like one you'll like the other unless you are a real Grognard.

RE: Finished Campaign

<r> You are a FAR more patiant man than me. One turn delay on arty mission + 2 turns fire mission + 3 turns cool down = 1 arty shot every 6 turns under ideal conditions not to mention radio contact delays. My missions were all over in ~20 turns so I don't think I ever even fired arty more than twice ...

RE: Finished Campaign

<t> Hard to say how many hours because I played the first mission about five times and the next two three times each (restarting the campaign a couple times). But once you have the hang of it I'd say maybe only 10-15 hours. Depends on how well you do. Each mission can take less than two hours if you ...

RE: After a few games, considered opinion.

Well in general most commanders on the attack were pressured to push. This is perhaps what the timing represents? Can't have your blokes lolli-gagging about!&nbsp;[:)]

Finished Campaign

<t> I just finished the campaign as the Germans. Only five missions?! Seems rather short. Overall I saw only minimal defensive movement by the AI. The occasional tank would displace that was about it. Lots of infantry routing of course. It would be nice to see some counterattack missions.<br/>

<r> Sorry to go off topic but how is WitP different from Uncommon Valor? Is it just the scope or is the engine improved in some way? I love UV but always hear people talk about WitP.<br/>

RE: Trunk call

<t> It seems what is happening is that LOS is not determined by woodland 'areas' but by the actual 3D trees themselves (or areas just around them). I've had LOS blocked to AT guns that were at the edge of a wood with just one tree in front of them and nothing else in the way. But from the manual we ...

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>
Most of the problem is caused by the vehicles being placed too close to each other in the first place. Doctrine called for a platoon's vehicles to be separated by 50 meters. That'd help avoid the cluster-**** depicted above. It would also dilute the effect of enemy HE and ...

<t> Hurts my head to think back too many years. But I certainly put CotA and HttR near the top of my list of best wargames I still have installed. Combat Mission series, Strategic Command 2, Battles in Normandy/series, and Uncommon Valor would be up there as well. CotA may be the best operational ...

<r> The movie idea is great (If you have not seen it yet try out Camtasia Studio, <URL url="http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp">http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp</URL>). <t> I think the main issue around 'auto-turning' and the like is that the AI simply doesn't respond well. I posted somewhere a story about one of my tanks getting HIT from the side by a newly seen AT gun. It ignored the AT gun and dutifully plugged away at the target I had set. A great AI would ...

Same goes for supression as well right? A suppressed unit is non suppressed next turn? I guess this all goes back to the issue of all or nothing with infantry but it is an issue for tanks as well.

Infantry Trick

<t> Have you had one of your halftracks shot out from under your infantry? If so then you may have noticed it is hard to then command that foot unit. I discovered one trick that solves that issue. Just unmount your command infantry unit, give the orders you need to get the guys on foot going and ...
