RE: Too bad this is dead

<t> This was the second or third game in a row, for me at least, that they released that ultimately killed PC games and what was as I once knew it Matrix games. The others was the swords civil war game, World in Flames promise of AI, ASL clone Tigers Hunt or whatever it was called. <br/>

RE: 2by3 to publish Steel Tigers

<t> Great points and I remember that Matrix and a lot of the great products they developed and produced. I fear they, along with the people that made them great, don’t exist here anymore. Sad really, when I realize such a big part of a hobby I’ve loved in various forms isn’t what it used to be, but ...

If anyone else ever has this issue in the future; update your graphics driver. It resolved my issue.

RE: SSG Updated Versions

<r> Absolutely demyansk, feel free to pm me anytime. I've logged in here more in the last week than I have in the last couple of years! I am pretty much exclusively a solitaire board gamer at this point in my life. Currently on my table are all of the D Day games, which I am playing in release order ...

RE: SSG Updated Versions

Yes, I would consider myself strictly a board gamer at this point. The only PC games that really interest me now are either board game ports or those that have a board game feel, ala Decisive Campaigns or TOAW.

RE: SSG Updated Versions

<t> This thread got me to re-install all of the Decisive Battles games after having played Kharkov for the last couple of weeks. Amazingly, they all installed and play beautifully, save for Battles in Italy which starts and runs fine, with one exception; I have all black terrain?!? Anyone have any ...

Same problem here. All other SSG games load and run fine. Totally black terrain, everything else is perfect. Any suggestions?

RE: SSG Updated Versions

<t> Yes, one of the founders and principal developers (Ian Trout) passed away sadly not long after Kharkov was released and that pretty much ended SSG. I am hoping more for something along the lines of what Matrix did for the Battleground/Campaign games that John Tiller did. Maybe it is my old age ...

SSG Updated Versions

<t> I've pretty much stopped playing any wargames on PC and all of my time and money are spent playing boardgames now. Having said that, I still fire up the SSG titles and every time I do I am reminded why I got into PC wargames in the first place. Being pretty much resigned that SSG is no longer ...

<r> For the last few years I have retreated from playing pc games and gotten back into board games. There are a number of really excellent solo games available. DVG as stated and here are a few more; <br/>

RE: Always playing a Go - To Game

<t> That really depends on your area of interest and what captivates your imagination. Board Game Geek is a fantastic resource to gauge that interest and do some research. From a wargame perspective, the D-Day games by Decision Games (there are currently three) are all outstanding. There is also ...

RE: Always playing a Go - To Game

Still fire up all of the SSG titles at least once a year, but my excitement for new games has definitely waned considerably in the last year or two. I spend almost all of my money and devote all of my time playing solitaire board games now.

RE: Sid Meier´s Civilization A New Dawn Gen Con 2017

<t> I couldn't agree more! It isn't just the dice though, it is the beautiful boards and/or map tiles, the cards, the miniatures, the hard copy rule books, it is the whole tactile experience. It all just takes ahold of my imagination in a way that nothing in 20+ years of PC gaming ever has. For my ...

RE: Sid Meier´s Civilization A New Dawn Gen Con 2017

<t> Maybe it's age, maybe it's the quality of what is being produced but board games really captivate my imagination in a way PC games don't anymore. In the last few years I have gone back to my board game roots and have become addicted. As noted, if you have both the time and the space, it is a ...

RE: Minature players have you seen this one?

Looks interesting. There seems to be a surge of table top/board games making a crossover to the PC. Command and Colors Ancients is the one I am excited for though.

RE: What Games Have You Played Today?

<t> Stellaris with all the DLC. Outside of CK2, not a big Paradox fan and even less of a fan of real time games, but, this one works. I don't know why, but, it really captures an epic feeling for me. I am running a concurrent GMT Space Empires 4X (base game only, haven't incorporated the Close ...

RE: The Operational Art of War IV opens the gates for Beta Recruitment!

Has the beta testing closed or started? Is there a timeline as to when we might expect to hear if we have been chosen in the event it hasn't begun?
