Re: A Moderator asks you to stop and think...

Lapsed player/lurker just wanting to show solidarity with Loki - the best manual writer I've ever encountered, and the most excellent tutor/guide on these forums. Incredibly patient and generous person judged on his contributions to the forum.

Very surprised the racist/homophobic poster wasn't ...

RE: Struggling with this Game

<t> I must say that I essentially agree with the OP. <br/>
<br/>
I am not against the depth or complexity of the game - quite the reverse, I think that this is all fantastic. That is what brings all of us here to this forum. This is the best game of its class ever created. <br/>

But I from ...

RE: Building the red army

Thanks guys that's great stuff.

Until you've completed a full campaign it's all those estimations of future truck use that are hard to judge without having lived through it!

Talking trucks: So when the soviet player looks at his truck pool, and let's say he sees 20k trucks there, is that 20k trucks going to waste that he should build new units to use up? <br/>

Also, as Soviet player approx how many tank corps ...

RE: Truck Summary in logistics Phase Report is hard to understand:

If you accidentally transfer a unit to a theatre box, but you're playing without enhanced TB control, is that unit basically lost to you?!

Building the red army

<t> Once you hit mid 1942 and tank corps are available, what are folks' thoughts on how to manage the red army's armour?<br/>
<br/>
How many tank corps do folks build in 1942? <br/>
<br/>
Should you make tank corps out of every tank brigade/motorised brigade that you have already built?<br ...

The truck war

<t> I'm struggling to get my head around measuring how I'm doing on the truck front. Clearly this is something vital to get right. <br/>

Speaking from the Soviet perspective in this case, how do you judge the health of your truck force - ie helping decide how many tank corps / mech units you ...

RE: Faster way to change HQ?

<t> Changing HQ assignments is probably one of the most egregious generators of excess clicks in the game, seeing that one is constantly shifting units between commands. <br/>

It would be great if a more streamlined system for this could be devised, although I suspect the architecture of the ...

RE: Recon underestimation

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>I guess I'm not sure (a) why you are seeing this as such a huge issue or (b) why you think a lack of recon should trigger systemic over-estimation. RE: Recon underestimation

<t> So in this small data set, we have the difference between the estimated CVs and the real CVs as +12%, +30%, +30%, +15%, +40%. <br/>
<br/>
And in my experience this pattern is repeated across the entire front, every turn.<br/>
<br/>
Which means as a simple rule of thumb, if I look at an enemy ...

<r> And finally the unit showing estimated CV of 12. The hasty attack reveals true CV of 17. That's a difference around +40%<br/>

RE: Recon underestimation

<r> Next moving down to the hex with CV 11. <br/>
<br/>
I attack to discover the real CV is 16. Which in this case is around +45%. A little on the higher end of the range, but more careful research would have revealed the mouse-over CV of the hex is 5.7 + 6.9 = 12.6. That brings the difference ...

RE: Recon underestimation

<r> Next I attack the hex with estimated CV 7, revealing a true CV of 9. So the true CV is around +30% here.<br/>

RE: Recon underestimation

<r> To demonstrate, I now make hasty attacks with cavalry on the units I listed to reveal their true CV. <br/>
<br/>
Firstly the stack showing CV18. The hasty attack reveals the true CV is 20. So the real CV in this case is +12%<br/>

RE: Recon underestimation

<t> Just had a quick spin on the Vistula scenario and attacked all the German units across the front. <br/>
<br/>
In every case the estimated CV was always less (occasionally equal to) the real CV of the defending units. Typically the real CV was somewhere between 20-60% more. <br/>
<br/>
Surely ...
