RE: Fatal B-17 crash

<t> There is a big difference between losing one (or two) engines "in flight" as in at altitude and with airspeed, and losing an engine (or God forbid two) on takeoff when airspeed is low and there is little to no altitude available to maneuver/recover. <br/>

Those look like some hefty carrier aircraft losses. 175ish total, including 140 DB/TB.

I'd say it appears to be a minesweeper based on the davits/cranes on the stern. Fits with the overall apparent size and armament as well. I do agree that it appear to be Commonwealth from the general styling.

RE: Are Biologics (fish) usually given a mission?

I am not sure if the biologics are placed in a scenario typically as a torpedo sink. Mostly I think they are intended to be simple distractions, although I think they can be used as temporary concealment to hide behind.

<t> Have you looked at the relative Anti-Soft values for the Japanese? I am wondering if there was a general slowing of anti-soft value/creep to slow down the casualty rate, but the ratios are similar? I don't really have much experience with the unit values to know how much effect these changes ...

In the years after WWII when technology was advancing rapidly, the Navy typically tried things out incrementally first ...

Hmmm, the combat reports for those encounters both say "3 mines cleared". Seems more like 9 mines in the first and 10 in the second. [:D]

Not to mention the frustration level this is probably generating in your opponent. If you can get him worked up enough to "Hulk smash" that might open up opportunities to really do some damage.
